"Cheese Wranglers" is the first episode of The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse.
Mickey tries to wrangle a prized herd of cheese, but Peg-Leg Pete stands in his way.
Tropes:
- Big "NO!" / Skyward Scream: How Mickey, Donald and Goofy react when they notice the cheese has been rustled.
- The Cameo: Humphrey the Bear makes a cameo appearance during the "Wrangler's Code" song.
- Eat the Camera: An appropriately cartoony example. During Mickey's yodeling, when the camera zooms in to his uvula, it gains sentience and grabs his own guitar and cowboy hat.
- Extreme Closeup: Mickey, Donald, and Goofy all get detailed close-ups of their faces whenever they mention THE CODE.
- Mythology Gag:
- The western setting is called Big Thunder Valley, an homage to the Disney Theme Parks attraction Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
- The town resembles Frontierland, complete with an establishing shot of the Mark Twain Riverboat in the harbor, as well as The Haunted Mansion and Splash Mountain.
- Pete's henchmen are weasels, similar to The Prince and the Pauper. The weasels are also similar to Winkie's gang from "The Wind in the Willows" segment of The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad.
- Mickey wrangles the cheeses by playing guitar and yodeling; furthering the reference, Pete later uses this trick to rustle them away.
- The Power of Cheese: The herd that Mickey and friends wrangle are actually cheese wheels.
- Stealth Pun: Pete calls the Wrangler's Code is "a loada whiz", as in Cheese Whiz.
- Wicked Weasel: Pete's henchmen.
