Tropes in this episode:

  • Broken Pedestal: Millerna's perception of Allen takes a massive blow upon learning of his affair with her deceased sister.
  • Chocolate Baby: A very rare inversion of the usual trope. After the hints in the preceding episodes, Prince Chid is explicitly revealed to be not the son of Duke Mahad dal Freid and the decaesed Marlene, but a love child between her and Allen. Unusually, the Duke knows all of this, and vocally insists that Chid is his son (likely out of both love and to prevent a war with Austuria).
  • Cliffhanger: Zaibach formally begins their invasion of Freid.
  • Forbidden Romance: Marlene and Allen.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Dornkirk is familiar with Earth, hinting again at his secret history with the Mystic Moon.
    • Hitomi refusing Van's request to use her divination to scout out Zaibach's forces. One of the reasons she mentions is that ever since she came to Gaea, her predictions have somehow become more accurate than they were on Earth. This is another clue that Hitomi's not actually predicting the future, but instead creating potential futures (with her pendant).
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Dilandau passes on Zongi's intel to Folken and Dornkirk, who now learn about Hitomi, her Earthly origins, and her abilities.
    • Hitomi and Millerna learn of Marlene's affair with Allen (through divination and the deceased Princesses' diary).
  • The Reveal: Chid is really the love child of Allen and Marlene. However, it's also subverted with Hitomi as she
  • Spanner in the Works: Invoked in-story by Dornkirk, who now realizes that it's not Escaflowne that's been disrupting his future forecasting, but Hitomi.
  • Wham Line: Emperor Dornkirk explicitly calls the Mystic Moon Earth, a term that no modern resident of Gaea (outside the core characters) should or could possibly know. While it could initially be seen as part of the intel that Zongi passed on Dilandau on the first watch, the revelations of later episodes will reveal this is actually another major clue that Dornkirk's not of Gaea.
