Return to Recap: The Smurfs (1981).

Brainy is on a self-appointed mission to cure the Smurfs of all their flaws... but his attempts to do so make the Smurfs start acting like birds.

This episode provides examples of:

  • "Good Luck" Gesture: While Brainy is trying to make a formula to cure the Smurfs, Papa Smurf is in the forest, trying to restore a prince who's been turned into a frog. At one point, he tells the frog to cross his fingers for luck as he mixes up the poultice that will restore him to his human form. The prince tries to cross the fingers on his hand, but since he's got the hands of the frog, the fingers won't stay crossed. Papa Smurf laughs and excuses himself for that statement.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Brainy has this reaction on seeing the other Smurfs acting like birds.
Brainy: Heavens to Smurfatroyd, what have I done?
  • Tampering with Food and Drink: Brainy needs stinkweed powder for his formula, so he sneaks into Gargamel's house and manages to get some, leaving Smurfberries as payment and a note explaining why he needs the powder. As he's leaving, his medical bag tears, and he loses all the powder. When Gargamel finds the note, he concocts a formula to destroy the Smurfs, then labels it "Cure for All Illnesses" and leaves it by the bottle of stinkweed powder. Brainy, returning to get more stinkweed powder, decides to fill his bag with the "cure all" instead and slips into his fellow Smurfs' soup. It ends up turning them yellow and making them act like birds.
  • Villain Song: Gargamel sings an adaptation of "Mean, Sour, Nasty, and Cruel" from Yogi's First Christmas (originally from Oliver and the Artful Dodger).
