Return to Recap: The Smurfs (1981).

The Smurfs scold Nosey for causing problems with his nosiness getting into others' business. Nosey promises to redeem himself by gathering more ingredients from the swamp, so Brainy and Clumsy were instructed to go with him. At the swamp, two witches are looking for a mysterious wand. Their wish is for good luck to come their way and much to their surprise, they captured Nosey, Brainy and Clumsy. They took them to their hideout, so they'll help them find The Lost City of Yore at dawn.

Later at night, the Smurfs are searching for their captive friends. They come across Gargamel and Azrael to suspect if they're the ones behind the smurfnapping. Meanwhile, Brainy scolds Nosey for getting themselves captured. Clumsy suddenly spots the Smurfs coming to rescue them. But when they try to escape, Nosey gets stuck inside the scroll and caused the bottle to break. Waking up the two witches, they head off to the Lost City of Yore.

On their way, The Smurfs come across a box containing the scepter. Nosey's curiosity caused him to see what's inside the box. But when he opens it, Papa Smurf pushed him away and gets zapped in the process. While Smurfette is crying over Papa Smurf, Hefty scolds Nosey for his nosiness causing the problems. Nosey tearfully promises to never be nosey ever again. Just then, Gargamel shows up to grab the scepter. The two witches show up and fight over the scepter before it got destroyed.

The Smurfs run out of the lost city of Yore to see it go to ruins. Gargamel and Azrael get chased away by the witches, shooting bubbles at them. Smurfette scolds Nosey for his nosiness yet again. Brainy Smurf tries to sum up the adventure with lessons, but is tossed away by the other Smurfs (wondering why they would do that for speaking his mind).

This episode provides examples of:

  • A Day in the Limelight: Nosey Smurf.
  • Bittersweet Ending: The Smurfs managed to escape the City of Yore before it collapsed, leaving Gargamel and Azrael to be chased away by the Witches. Smurfette scolds Nosey for nearly getting the others killed, even though he was caught with Brainy and Clumsy in the first place. Brainy Smurf tells Nosey that curiosity killed the cat, but Papa Smurf corrects him that curiosity is a good thing. This gets Brainy to lecture lessons about curiosity, causing him to be thrown out of sight and the episode just ends there. It is unknown how the Smurfs returned to the village after a long adventure.
  • Catchphrase: Some of Nosey's lines, such as "I didn't mean to." and "What's wrong with being curious?" were considered this.
  • Darker and Edgier: Subverted as this episode wasted much potential given the focus on Nosey Smurf's antics. In the wizard's chamber, we are shown the consequences of the wizard's attempt to harness the scepter's power; a pile of dust which is all that remains of him. This is one of the show's rare ventures into demonstrating how dangerous magic truly is when things go wrong. Usually, the show kept things light by sticking to annoying, but comical inconveniences such as being turned into a toad or being stuck at a small size; things that could be cured before episode's end.
  • Disney Death: Papa Smurf gets zapped by the magic wand, causing the other Smurfs to mourn over his loss and outright blame Nosey for killing him. Subverted, as Papa Smurf comes back later in the episode alive and well.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Smurfette has a right to be angry at Nosey Smurf for looking at her diary, Greedy has a right to be angry at him for ruining his cooking and Papa Smurf has a right to be angry at him for ruining his experiment, which makes perfect sense for Nosey's busybody problem in the beginning.
  • Finger Gun: The Witches shoot Gargamel and Azrael with finger guns at the end of the episode.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Nosey is this to everyone in Smurf Village. It's justified, however, because he is always getting involved in the Smurfs' business and not respecting their privacy.
  • Getting the Boot: Brainy Smurf at the end of the episode.
  • Hypocrites: The other Smurfs who blame Nosey for his snoopish behavior doesn't make up for the fact they snooped into each other's businesses in previous episodes.
  • Non-Fatal Explosions: Papa Smurf and Nosey survive the explosion in the lab, covered in soot.
  • No Sympathy: Neither of the Smurfs forgive Nosey for his snoopish behavior at the end of the episode.
  • Random Events Plot: One of the earliest examples of the show thus far. One involves a Smurf getting his curiosity into trouble with the others in Smurf Village and another involving witches traveling over to the Lost City of Yore.
  • Reduced to Dust: The result of the wizard being turned to dust after failing to keep his magic wand under control.
  • Shamed by a Mob: The other Smurfs had a right to be angry at Nosey for snooping into other's businesses in the beginning of the episode.
