Lisa finds an old box belonging to Jasper, and when she secretly gives it back to him without their knowledge, she tries to make more people happy around Springfield. Marge meanwhile becomes a drag queen to sell tubberware, but is conflicted on leading this new double-life.

Tropes

  • Ambiguously Gay: It's unclear whether Mel is out and proud or just a Wholesome Crossdresser.
  • The Artifact: Lampshaded when, as in "Homer's Phobia," Marge's stereotypical 50's Housewife mannerisms and fashion conventions, such as her Beehive Hairdo, are seen as the height of Camp in a modern context, with Julio's Camp Gay friends believing it to be her drag queen gimmick.
  • Bland-Name Product: Tubberwear for Tupperwear.
  • Continuity Nod: The gay couple that won the game show Homer and Marge competed on earlier in the season reappear.
  • Everyone Knew Already: Although their audiences were fooled, the drag queens Marge was hanging out with all knew she was a woman, with the exception of one guy who admits to being extremely self-absorbed.
  • Explain, Explain... Oh, Crap!: Inverted with Homer, whose frantic rant about his discovery that Marge has been posing as a drag queen turns into a realization that the logic behind it makes perfect sense to him and he doesn't really have a problem with her doing it. Unfortunately, by that time he's already exposed her ruse to her entire audience.
  • Ink-Suit Actor: Queen Chante strongly resembles RuPaul.
  • Lost Food Grievance: Homer is deeply disappointed that the kitchen is full of Tubberware containers but no food inside any of them. Except for one with broccoli, which Homer claims is "The Devil's trees!"
  • Made Out to Be a Jerkass:
    • Even though Marge lied to Homer about what she was doing, he was forced to not only apologize, but give a Grand Romantic Gesture when he calls her out on it. In fact, Marge lying to everyone suddenly becomes about how selfish Homer is, despite him being nothing but supportive throughout the entire episode.
    • Marge also briefly kicks Homer out because the Tubberware he was bringing in for her wasn't the specific one she wanted.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Homer has one when his overreacting to Marge's drag Tubberware gimmick, which then cost her the business deal she was making, as well as her new self-confidence.
  • Not Even Bothering with the Accent: Played for Laughs: Julio deliberately drops his accent to break it to Marge that everybody at the party thought she was a drag queen.
  • "Not Making This Up" Disclaimer: Julio claims that all the top "Tubberware" salespeople in the country are drag queens, to which Marge replies "What? That can't be true." A series of captions explains that it is true with a list of URLs to prove it.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • Surprisingly, Bart has no ulterior motives to foil Lisa's plan of wanting to help people anonymously, if anything, he seems to greatly appreciate the cloak-and-dagger approach to her schemes, and does nothing to stop her, but instead actively conspires with her throughout the episode. When Lisa asks for the keys to the Skinner residence, he helps her; even when he's tired and still in bed, and he just hands over some blueprints, the keys, and some Tuna, all without objection, just so Lisa can plant a fake journal to improve Seymour and his mothers' relationship (his only condition was to feed Seymours cat the tuna).
    • Also, despite her typical crankiness, Agnes felt guilty for making Lisa cry and truly appreciates her attempts to help her relationship with her son.
    • Heck, Lisa, who at times has been accused of self righteousness and wanting attention, did her deeds anonymously, only revealing her involvement when Agnes discovered the truth and nearly had a misunderstanding with her son over it.
  • Real Name as an Alias: "The Mysterious Waylon."
  • Recursive Crossdressing: Marge becomes a hit as a Tubberware salesperson because she is mistaken for a drag queen.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Special Guest: RuPaul as Queen Chante and Raja Gemini from RuPaul's Drag Race as herself.
