Recap / The Rookie 2018 S 2 E 06 Fallout

Go To

Nolan is at a courthouse testifying over a DUI incident with Wesley Evers serving as the defense attorney. During the trial, every cellphone is interrupted with an alert that says that a nuclear missile is going to hit Los Angeles in thirty minutes. Nolan discovers a fallout shelter is under the courthouse but when he goes, he discovers the Judge has planned to leave them all behind as well as lock the others out.

Meanwhile, Lopez and West deal with a suicidal quartet of teenage girls who believe the missile is a cover for a space ship to take them to Heaven. Bradford and Chen attempt to deal with looting as order breaks down throughout the story. Harper, meanwhile, takes her daughter from school to make sure she's not with strangers if the world ends.

Nolan ends up thwarting a murderer in the bomb shelter with Evers help but the latter is (non-fatally) stabbed.

  • Apocalypse How: All of the characters deal with the looming threat of nuclear annihilation for the duration of the episode.
  • Artistic License – Military: While based on a real incident in Hawaii, it took only three minutes to verify it was a false alarm in real life.
  • Cold Equation: There's the question of how long the supplies will last in the event of a nuclear disaster. Thankfully, it doesn't become an issue.
  • Cult: The teenage girls all belong to one inspired by the RL Heaven's Gate group.
  • It's All About Me: The Judge attempts to save his own life by keeping the bomb shelter for himself as well as a small number of employees.
  • Ripped from the Headlines:
    • The nuclear missile threat is based on a real life incident where a missile attack was mistaken as imminent.
    • The girls are based on the Heaven's Gate suicide cult. Thankfully, it ends better than in reality.
  • Scam Religion: It's implied the girls belong to one of them.
