The rookies undergo Plain Clothes Day where they are expected to be able to handle all of the calls with their TOs not assisting in any way. West is exceptionally eager to break his father's record but Ortega keeps him grounded in paperwork in order to teach him humility.
Nolan is interested in becoming a detective by the time he's fifty and ends up ignoring a woman who turns out to have been stalked by her psychotic ex-husband. Chen, meanwhile, finds a sex offender filming a teenage girl through a window and screws up when she leaves behind his van that contains a large amount of evidence.
- Abusive Spouse: The woman Nolan ignores is almost killed by her insane ex-husband.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Chen realizes this when she finds out that she left behind a van with a potential boatload of evidence that could lead to other sex offenders.
- Pedo Hunt: Chen manages to find a man stalking an underage girl and filming her. Bradford believes his arrest could lead to other sex offenders.
- Secret Test of Character: West and Chen are both forced into these in order to see what sort of cops they would be. Both pass.
- Sink or Swim Mentor: Averted. All of the training officers are there to help in the case of real threats but mostly let the rookies think they're able to cause real threats.
