Shelton has his bar mitzvah, but his parents exclude him from planning his own party, and the end result is not what he had in mind.

This episode includes examples of:

  • Ahem: Riley does this to try to hint to Shelton that she should be the videographer for his party. However, he ends up thinking she’s coughing because she’s actually sick.
  • Be the Ball: A variant. While he doesn’t squish Shelton into the shape of a ball, Carson Palmer does throw him like a football.
  • Beyond Redemption: Jacobo believes that if he and Todd go through with stealing Shelton’s bar mitzvah gift, they will be this - continuing through a life of crime that inevitably lands them in prison.
  • Doesn't Know Their Own Child: It’s clear that Klutzberrys have no idea what their son is actually interested in, as they made his bar mitzvah an extravagant, sports-themed party when he would’ve rather it have been themed around his favorite sci-fi Show Within a Show Star Journeys.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: In Jacobo’s Imagine Spot about him and Todd becoming criminals, Todd has a classic heart “Mom” tattoo and Jacobo has a similar one that says “Todd’s Mom”.
  • Friendship Moment: Despite pretty much ignoring him throughout his whole party, Shelton’s friends actually did a really nice thing for him at the end of the episode by gifting him with their own version of a Star Journeys episode with him as their courageous captain.
  • Gratuitous French: Todd chides Riley for replacing Jerry Friedman with herself by telling her, “J’accuse, Riley!”
  • I Do Not Like Green Eggs and Ham: Dick is very reluctant to try the traditional Jewish food at first, but once he does he can’t get enough of it and calls it “kosher-licious”.
  • Institutional Apparel: For some reason, Todd and Jacobo are already wearing black and white striped jumpsuits when they get caught by the police for stealing Shelton’s present in Jacobo’s Imagine Spot.
  • Just Friends: Johnny asks Riley to dance, but immediately clarifies that it would be as friends.
  • Ow, My Body Part!: Shelton when he hurts his arm by running into Todd:
Shelton: Ow, my arm with the bruising and the whatnot!
  • Rite of Passage: This episode focuses on Shelton’s bar mitzvah party.
  • Senior Sleep-Cycle: An elderly guest at Shelton’s party literally falls asleep standing up.
  • Shoddy Shindig: In his eyes, Shelton’s bar mitzvah was this. Everyone else had a great time though.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Suspiciously Specific Denial: Even though he already has a videographer for his party, Riley tells Shelton that she’ll bring her video camera just in case “for some reason he, I don’t know, doesn’t show up!”
Shelton: That sounds perfectly reasonable and totally not suspicious!
