Monstra-City:
- An Aesop: If you don’t get along with certain people and you don’t think that you’re compatible with them, then there’s no point forcing any connections.
- Big "SHUT UP!": Buttercup delivers this multiple times throughout the episode to get everyone's attention.
- Even Evil Has Loved Ones: A big-eyed monster is shown to have a wife and kids.
- Evil Lawyer Joke: One of the monsters is a lawyer, who the rest are able to use to file a class-action lawsuit in order to get the deed back.
- Fantastic Racism:
- The monsters are met with much hostility once they move to Townsville. Not entirely unjustified considering their past actions, but still quite harsh since this time they have no choice but to try and live in Townsville.
- Downplayed with the Corrupt Corporate Executive who buys the deed from the Mayor, who's arrogant enough to believe the monsters have no rights as citizens of Townsville to sue for their island back, and threatens to get their lawyer disbarred. Said lawyer just flicks him into the ocean, leaving the other executives with no complaints.
- Feathered Fiend: The first Kaiju to attack Townsville is a giant chicken.
- Running Gag: Buttercup yelling "SHUT UP!" to get everyone's attention when the humans and monsters are arguing with each other. She even starts to acknowledge how overdone it's become.Buttercup: How many times do I have to tell you people to SHUT UP?!
- The Tooth Hurts: Buttercup snaps one of the giant chickens’ teeth off.
- Waving Signs Around: When the anti-monsters protests intensify, some people start waving signs reading “no monsters”.
Shut the Pup Up
- All Take and No Give: Talking dog takes full advantage of being in the girls’ house, and the girls keep giving in to his demands in hopes that he will talk about the crime he witnessed.
- A Day in the Limelight: For the Talking Dog, who gets a starring role in the episode after previously being a recurring extra since the show began.
- Disposing of a Body: Subverted. It seems that this was the crime the talking dog witnessed in the harbor, however, in the end, it turns out the bag the 2 supposed crooks dumped in the water contained just bones; leftover rib bones from their bistro that is.
- Free Prize at the Bottom: Buttercup and Bubbles have an argument over who gets the prize in their current pack of cereal.
- Madness Mantra: Bubbles falls into this after Talking Dog insults her one time too many.Bubbles: I'm not a chubby crybaby, I'm not a chubby crybaby, I'm not a chubby crybaby...
- Innocently Insensitive: Talking Dog can be quite rude and brutally honest without even realizing it. It quickly causes everyone except the Mayor to start disliking him.
- Talking in Your Sleep: Talking Dog has a habit of doing so. The girls even stay up to listen to it in hopes that he will reveal important details about the crime this way.
- Witness Protection: Talking Dog ends up at the Utonium house because of this.
