Recap / The Omnitrix Hero S 1 E 9 Rise Of The Technovore

Go To

Timber Spruce visits Twilight and brings a piece of alien technology that fell from the sky the other day. But while he and Flash are fighting over it, their scuffle accidentally activates the tech, and unleashes the alien parasite Technovore.

  • Aesop Amnesia: Twilight forgets about the dangers of messing with things she doesn't understand that she previously learned during the Friendship Games. Flash specifically reminds her of this, referencing the event, and she seems to consider his advice before Timber butts in.
  • Arbitrary Skepticism: Timber doesn't believe that aliens are real, despite irrefutable evidence of Flash's Omnitrix forms. Instead, he believes that they're regular people in suits, until he sees a photo of Goop and sees how he is transparent.
  • Damned by Faint Praise: The only good thing Shining Armor can say about Timber Spruce is "I don't don't like him".
  • EMP: Twilight makes a small one to deactivate Technovore.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: When Flash runs into Twilight and Timber in town, Twilight reminds Timber how Flash went to camp at the same time as her. Timber awkwardly greets Flash, but it is clear he has no idea who he is.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Flash finds himself upset over Twilight's relationship with Timber, rolling his eyes when Timber is mentioned, and part of him telling him that Timber "stole his girl from him" before reminding himself that Twilight was never his girl to begin with.
  • Innocently Insensitive: After Twilight reveals that Timber is coming to visit her tomorrow, Rarity becomes so excited that she drags Twilight to shop for something special to wear for their date, with Derpy tagging along. This leaves Flash to finish cleaning up on his own, with him groaning in annoyance.
  • Mundane Utility: Subverted; when Flash is left to finish cleaning up on his own by the rest of the chemistry club, he tries to go XLR8 to clean everything super fast. But the watch gives him Chamalien instead, forcing him to keep cleaning everything at his usual speed, but while invisible.
  • Never My Fault: Unlike Flash and Twilight, who both realize it is partly their fault Technovore was unleashed and both try to stop it, Timber believes nothing Technovore does is his own fault since he isn't controlling it and is only concerned with keeping himself and Twilight safe from it. Even at the end when Shining gives both him and Twilight a stern talking to for their recklessness, Timber still doesn't see what the big deal is since nobody got hurt.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Flash and Timber's struggle over the piece of alien tech that Timber brought for Twilight to examine causes the Omnitrix to accidentally zap it and unleash Technovore.
  • Outrun the Fireball: A variation occurs with the EMP. After XLR8 uses it on Technovore, he outruns its blast himself to avoid having it potentially effect the Omnitrix.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Unlike Flash, who tries to mend his mistake with unleashing Technovore, Timber decides to hightail it out of there, unsuccessfully trying to get Twilight to do the same.
  • Too Fast to Stop: XLR8 ends up running at his top speed to outrun the EMP that he ends up going so fast, upon Flash turning back to normal he rolls painfully along the ground for a moment.
  • Too Much Alike: Shining Armor tells Flash how he feels Twilight and Timber are this. He always thought Twilight would find someone to help balance her nerdy side, but with Timber they seem to like all the same things and that keeps her from experiencing anything new. He actually compares himself and Cadance, and how even though they like different things they still have common ground with a few things and got each other to try new things.
