Tropes

  • Everyone Has Standards: Everyone in the office mocks Michael after they learn he accidentally fell into a koi pond. But once they learn that Michael would've been fine had Jim stopped him instead of allowing it, they're appalled that Jim would let Michael humiliate himself like that.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Jim is revealed to have sabotaged Michael because he's jealous of him.
  • Hope Spot: Andy and Pam almost nail their sales both times, only for their antics to ruin both of them.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Jim becomes the butt of jokes when it's discovered it's his fault Michael fell into the pond. Downplayed, however, as he and Michael are able to resolve the tension between them, and ultimately both are able to laugh them off.
  • Logic Bomb: Dwight seems to have gotten into it as Jim is exposed as the reason behind Michael's fall.
Dwight: Jim is my enemy, but it turns out that Jim is also His Own Worst Enemy. And the enemy of my enemy is my friend. So Jim is actually my friend. But, because he is His Own Worst Enemy, the enemy of my friend is my enemy. So actually, Jim is my enemy. But-
  • She Is Not My Girlfriend: Andy and Pam are repeatedly mistaken for a married couple by the people they meet with.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: Until they try cold-calling the last potential client and play along with the assumption that they're an expecting married couple.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Once everyone else sees that Michael only fell into the koi pond because Jim let him, Michael is spared from further humiliation.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Pam makes very clear to Andy how disgusted she is with the insulting way he treated her during one of the cold calls they attempt and blames him for blowing the sale. Andy, however, points out that she insulted him first by saying she would never date him in front of the client when trying to clarify their relationship and brushes off her accusation that the sale failed cause of him, implying that she's the one at fault.
  • Worth It: After Meredith manages to get the footage of the koi pond incident, Jim threatens to force the employees to stay late through a sensitivity seminar if they view the tape. Kevin and Oscar briefly pause, before the former fist bumps the latter declaring, "We'll stay late."
