Oscar tells Murray the story of how he arranged the double-blind date in which Felix met his ex-wife Gloria twenty years ago, as well as how Felix lost his voice just before proposing, forcing Oscar to propose to Gloria for him.

Tropes featured in this episode:

  • Altar the Speed: Played with; Felix falls madly in love with Gloria and wants to propose to her, despite his nervousness about the short time they've known each other. He makes up his mind to do it just before she leaves for Korea with the USO troop because he's afraid she'll find someone else there.
  • Blind Date: Oscar sets Felix up with a girl he doesn't know, which makes him nervous.
  • Double Date: Oscar takes Felix along on a date, getting a partner for him as well. Felix is set with an extravagant girl, yet he prefers Gloria, Oscar's date.
  • The '50s
  • Love Informant: Just before proposing to Gloria, Felix becomes so nervous he loses his voice. As a result, Oscar is forced to follow a strict guideline in order to propose to her, but he decides to tell her straight out.
  • Love Confession: Felix does this quite abruptly at the end of the first act, which has the audience roaring with laughter.
  • Shout-Out: Felix's previous girl ran away with Lawrence Welk's drummer. And when Gloria is about to leave for the USO show, Felix thinks she'll run away with Les Brown's drummer.
