Film: Diary of a Wimpy Kid

We Remember These Tropes So You Don't Have To:

  • Ax-Crazy: Tamara, of all people, is portrayed as such during the opening and closing of the review.
  • Black Dude Dies First: Malcolm is killed by Tamara at the end of the review.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Tamara's relationship with her best friend Billy is supposed to mirror The Critic's main complaint about the movie, which is how Greg treats his best friend Rowley.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: invoked Rowley is praised by the Critic as the best character in the show, thanks to his endearing, interesting personality, the child actor giving as good as he can.
  • Everyone Has Standards: The Critic has had no problem in torturing Malcolm and Tamara, but even he is alarmed by Tamara's treatment of Billy. However, this can be considered downplayed, because he has been acting much nicer and kinder in the most recent episodes.
  • Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist: The Critic discusses this movie as an example of how this trope can backfire. While intentionally unlikable characters have some appeal, there has to be some charm about them other than just the bad qualities, and the catharsis isn`t enough if the character himself is uninteresting.
  • Took the Bad Film Seriously: invoked The Critic cites Rowley`s actor giving his best in his show as one of the reasons he`s the best thing in the movie.
  • Vanilla Protagonist: invoked The Critic bashes Greg for being so boring in a cast full of much more colorful kids that he`d rather see a movie about anybody else.
  • With Friends Like These...: Tamara with her supposed best friend Billy. During her childhood, she shamed him for not changing who he was and enjoyed seeing him cry, tied him up to a tree and threw rocks at him for not fixing her insecurities, and even framed him for eating the school hamster (which she probably did). This even extends to present day where she even buried him under the studio's lounge area.
