Recap / The New Adventures Of Winnie The Pooh S 2 E2a Rabbit Marks The Spot

Go To

When Pooh, Piglet, Tigger and Gopher make a mess of Rabbit's garden while playing as pirates, Rabbit decides to pay them back by giving them a treasure map he claims belonged to his ancestor, the rabbit pirate Long John Cottontail. The map does, in fact, lead to a treasure chest... filled with worthless rocks, which Rabbit put there himself. But when Rabbit has a nightmare of how angry his friends will be when they find out, Rabbit tries desperately to get the chest back before the others can open it.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes.

  • Animation Bump: The "Pirates Is What We'll Be" number at the start of the episode uses very fluid animation.
    • The rest of the episode would also count as well, compared to the other episodes animated by Walt Disney Animation Australia. It's done in their very expressive and cartoonish Signature Style, compared to the other episodes they've done being more toned down to fit with the more relaxed nature of the series.
  • Bait-and-Switch: When the fake treasure is unveiled, at first it seems Pooh and the gang are upset with Rabbit as he apologizes, but to his surprise, they love it.
  • Eat the Camera: Inverted. In the opening scene, we have the camera zooming out of Tigger's open mouth as he begins singing the episode's song.
  • Floorboard Failure: The gang tries to open the chest by dropping it from the ceiling onto an anvil in Piglet's home. We don't see what happens, but the dialogue makes it clear.
    Piglet: Where did it go?
    Tigger: The basement.
    Piglet: I don't have a basement.
    Tigger: You do now.
  • Fool's Map: Rabbit makes a fake treasure map to teach the others a lesson about messing up his garden.
  • Gainax Ending: Long John Cottontail's ghost appears and states that the rocks really were his treasure after all, making Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, Gopher, and Rabbit flee in terror at the sight of the ghost, much to even the ghost's confusion.
  • Going Down with the Ship: When their boat, which had wheels on it, ends up in a stream, Piglet, as captain, has to go down with it. So Piglet appoints Tigger captain. And then Tigger appoints Piglet captain again, who then reappoints Tigger, and so forth.
  • Guilt-Induced Nightmare: Rabbit has one where creepy stone versions of the others lambast him for his trick, causing his Heel Realization.
  • Oblivious Guilt Slinging: Rabbit overhears Piglet insisting they share the treasure with Rabbit when they open it. He's so ashamed by this that he attempts to move away before they discover his trick.
  • Pirate Song: "Pirates Is What We'll Be", sung by Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, and Gopher.
  • Real After All: What Long John Cottontail turns out to be.
  • Treasure Hunt Episode
  • Worthless Treasure Twist: Played with. The fake treasure of Long John Cottontail is just rocks, but the guys still decided to consider it treasure because they can find uses for them. And apparently so did Cottontail himself, as his ghost appears and refers to the treasure as "his buried rocks."
