Recap / The Nanny S 5 E 3 The Bobbi Flekman Story

Go To

Brighton has won a contest, and the prize is that Brian Setzer will be shooting his new music video in the Sheffields' home. The promotion is headed by Bobbi Flekman, who happens to be an old friend of Maxwell. Fearing that she's a rival for Maxwell's affections, Fran concocts a Zany Scheme in which she pretends to be Bobbi.

  • As Himself: Brian Setzer
  • Comfort Food: Fran is overeating to deal with the events of the previous episode, and C.C. is overeating to deal with being C.C.
  • Crossover: With This is Spın̈al Tap, via the presence of Bobbi Flekman.
  • Double Vision: Of course, Fran Drescher plays both Fran Fine and Bobbi Flekman. They are seen together a little at the beginning, but the episode mostly relies on having only one on-screen at a time.
  • Enemy Mine: C.C. proposes that she and Fran should team up against Bobbi:
C.C.: Don't you see, Bobbi Flekman is an amalgamation of the two of us. She is everything he is searching for in a woman. [points to self] Beauty, brains, and... [points to Fran] ...a slut.
  • Furniture Blockade: Used to imprison the real Bobbi while Fran is impersonating her.
  • Identical Stranger: Fran doesn't see it:
Brighton: God, that was so weird. She looked just like you.
Fran: Really? [looks in mirror] Oh, maybe in about ten years.
    • Neither does Val:
Val: And you know what I don't get is, how can he be attracted to you and her? Ugh, the guy's taste is all over the map!
  • Third-Option Love Interest: Fran and C.C. fear that Bobbi might be one, but it turns out they're Wrong Genre Savvy.
  • Twin Switch: Naturally, the episode culminates with Fran pretending to be Bobbi.
  • What Are Records?:
Fran: Brian Setzer, I love him! He used to be a Stray Cat! I've been listening to him since the early '80s!
Brighton: Hey, is it true back then people used to listen to their music on some sort of primitive, large, black, vinyl disc?
Fran: Only when we weren't enjoying our favorite pastime, child-hurling.
  • You Just Ruined the Shot: The final scene of the episode features Brian Setzer and his band shooting a music video for "The House Is Rockin'" in the Sheffield home; partway through, Niles wanders in behind Brian (and in front of the rest of the band) and starts mugging for the camera, until the director puts a stop to it, yelling "Cut! Get that damn butler out of the shot!"
