Recap / The Nanny S 2 E 6 The Nanny Napper

Go To

Fran accidentally kidnaps a baby from a Babushka-type woman she met on the subway.

  • Accidental Kidnapping: The whole plot — Fran is simply holding the infant for a woman for a minute, only for said woman to end up being caught up in a rush of people getting out of the subway car and accidentally leaving her baby in Fran's arms.
  • Ambiguously Bi: After a muscular female police officer strip-searches Fran, she remarks "That's one fantasy shot straight to Hell!"
  • "Basic Instinct" Legs-Crossing Parody: Done by Fran during the end credits.
  • The Big Rotten Apple: Many jokes about New York City having a high crime rate.
  • The Diaper Change: Happens a couple times.
  • Inadvertent Entrance Cue:
Fran: Niles, do we have any old nipples around the house?
(the door opens and C.C. comes in)
    C.C.: Hello, hello!
    (Niles just bites his coat)
  • Mugging the Monster: Played for Laughs when a guy accosts Fran and the kids for a dollar while they're waiting for the subway. Fran promptly screams at the guy and insists that he give her a dollar, and he sheepishly agrees.
  • New Baby Episode: A variation — Fran accidentally brings home a Russian woman's baby. The usual tropes, including diaper changing, the Sheffields growing attached to the baby, and dealing with crying, all occur, but there's an undercurrent of everyone knowing that the child should be with his real mom.
  • Platonic Prostitution: When Fran and Max are at the police station, and then get joined by C.C. a hooker who's also there approaches C.C. and acts as if they're old friends while C.C. claims she's never seen the woman before in her life. It turns out afterward that Niles had hired her to make C.C. look bad in front of Max as a prank.
  • Shameful Strip: Double Subverted. When Fran hears that she will be strip-searched, she protests most vehemently... until she sees a handsome police officer approaching her. He leads her into a side room... and then steps aside, allowing a large woman to enter and perform the strip search.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: Fran accidentally takes a woman's baby (the woman hands her the child on a crowded subway, and then gets pushed off the train in a rush of people), and since the woman doesn't speak any English, it seems like there's no way to explain what happened... until Fran mentions a similar situation occurring on The Young and the Restless. The mother immediately recognizes the reference and episode in question, and agrees to drop the kidnapping charge she's filed. Things get even better when the police chief gets in on the act by correcting them about the episode!
  • Teen Pregnancy: Alluded to:
Maggie: Oh, I can't wait to have a baby of my own...
Maxwell: Yes, you can wait. You can wait a lot.
  • Troll: Niles pays a hooker at the police station to act like she's friends with C.C., capped off with a warning that "Leon" is looking for her on 2nd Avenue.
Hooker: Was it good for you?
Niles: It was so good I could do it over and over and over again.
