This episode has examples of

  • Company Cross References: Floyd makes one to Hey Cinderella! when he sees the tops of Piggy's feet bulging out of the shoes.
Floyd: Hey, Cinderella, who sold you the slippers? A shoe salesman or a sausage stuffer?
  • Everything's Sparkly with Jewelry: "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend". Carol and Piggy enter a palace in diamond-encrusted dresses, then try to outdo each other with more diamonds.
  • Gone Horribly Right: To stretch out the shoes, Carol suggests having Timmy Monster run around the block in them. The results are more than what Piggy wanted.
  • High Heel Hurt: Piggy spends most of the episode limping in her painful shoes. It gets worse when Kermit, seeing her in them, starts complimenting her.
Kermit: Hey, let me see you just walk around a little bit in 'em.
    Miss Piggy: Hmm?
Kermit: Just walk around a little bit. Let me see the backs of 'em.
Miss Piggy: Um... [starts walking, forcing a cheerful hum]
Kermit: Nice. Uh, hey, can you dance in those, too?
    Miss Piggy: What?
Kermit: Sure, let's just dance a little bit. [starts hopping] Here we go. Dum de dum dum...
    [She painfully follows his lead.]
  • I Kiss Your Hand: In the "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" number, Link, as a nobleman, does this to both Carol and Piggy, as a queen and a princess, respectively.
  • Last-Second Word Swap: As Miss Piggy prepares to return her too-tight shoes, Kermit sees them and asks about them. Miss Piggy starts to say that she's going to return them because they're not the right size, but then thinks better of it and goes with the more flattering "not the right style".
  • Love Makes You Dumb: Just as Miss Piggy considers returning the shoes, Kermit admits he thinks she'd look good in them, leading Piggy to keep them, despite the pain.
  • Speech Impediment: Carol plays Whistling Cecilia, a silent-film star who never made it in talkies because she whistles her S's.
  • Visual Pun: The Swedish Chef makes a "mëåty løåfër" by stuffing ground meat into a loafer shoe. The shoe's owner, a pig, demands it back. He puts it on, meat and all, and gets chased by dogs.
Chef: ...De mëåty løåfër... de mëåt. Nicëy mëåty... [displays a shoe] ...de løåfër.
  • With This Ring: At the closing, Piggy confesses to Carol that the diamonds are not hers, only rentals. Carol begs Kermit to let Piggy keep just one little diamond, and he agrees. He changes his tune when he realizes that Piggy has chosen an engagement ring.
Miss Piggy: You're all invited to the wedding!
Kermit: That's not an engagement ring!
    Miss Piggy: Yes, it is...!

[Statler and Waldorf are decked with diamonds.]
Statler: With Friends Like These...
Waldorf: ...who needs emeralds?
