  • Talk Spot: Kermit and Roy.

This episode has examples of

  • Comically Missing the Point: Kermit had said that Roy Clark being the guest star meant the show was "going country", as in, using a country western aesthetic. Fozzie thought he meant they were going to the country and had sent the stagehands out ahead of time.
  • Delayed Reaction:
Fozzie: Still, what could go wrong? I mean, the stage is set, the star has arrived, the audience is happy...
    Scooter: The theater's on fire.
Fozzie: ...the theater's on fire... [Beat] The theater's on FIRE!?
  • I Want My Mommy!: Link Hogthrob says this word for word while sucking his thumb after getting popped back out from who knows where by the malfunctioning control panel in the Pigs in Space sketch.
  • Lame Pun Reaction: Kermit's response to Roy's duck joke.
Roy: Uh, you have any soup to go with these quackers?
    [Kermit grimaces.]
Roy: You know what kind of joke we call that in Virginia?
    Kermit: Bad?
  • Literal Metaphor: During the opening, Scooter tells someone in the rafters to kill a light. A second later, the sound of a machine gun is heard and one of the lights falls from above.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Fozzie spends the episode desperately keeping Kermit unaware of the fire that's broken out.
  • Me's a Crowd: Roy plays "Rocky Top", at first with members of Lubbock Lou and his Jughuggers, but gradually the band is replaced with clones of Roy playing the banjo, the mandolin, the electric guitar, the fiddle, and the trumpet. When Waldorf expresses amazement at Roy's cloning, Statler shows him how it's done. Afterwards, Roy and a few of his clones pass by backstage and Floyd comments that Roy is a numerous person.
  • Mood Whiplash: Fozzie starts freaking out because the theatre has caught fire! Cue the Swedish Chef bit, where Chef sings his opening jingle as if nothing is wrong.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Fozzie's Comically Missing the Point leaves the show without stagehands.
  • The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: Fozzie calls the fire department. When the firemen show up, they sing "I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire" instead of putting out the fire.
  • Plank Gag: Kermit narrowly avoids being hit in the head with a plank by Fozzie as the bear attempts to fix a hole in the stage made by Gonzo's pogo stick. On top of that, Kermit falls down the hole. He isn't too badly hurt, though—he's landed on Gonzo.
  • Police Are Useless: Or rather, firemen are useless. Instead of putting out the fire, they've come to audition and sing, forcing Fozzie to deal with the fire himself during the song.
  • Sarcastic Well Wishing: Fozzie does this to the firemen when they sing instead of putting out the fire.
[Offscreen, a chicken is heard clucking pathetically.]
Fozzie: [rushing onscreen with a life preserver] Don't worry, I'll save you!
[He hurries offscreen and comes back with the moaning chicken in the life ring.]
Fozzie: [to the firemen] Are you proud of yourselves? You made this chicken a nervous wreck!
  • The Unintelligible: When Kermit wants to know why there's smoke backstage, Fozzie has the Swedish Chef explain it to him, knowing that Kermit can't understand him.

Statler: I thought for once the show really caught fire!
Waldorf: I thought it burnt itself out, same as always.
