This episode has examples of

  • Call-Back: In the "At the Dance" sketch, Animal's dance partner counts "one-two-three-dip" and smashes him against the ground on each dip, paying him back for doing the same to her in an earlier episode.
  • Carnivore Confusion: In a backstage scene, Hilda provides Aznavour with a supper that's a mix of real and Muppet food, notably the "French bread" (which looks like an ordinary loaf of bread until it starts speaking). Aznavour ends up befriending the bread instead of eating it, but one has to wonder what Hilda expected to happen.
  • Company Cross References: The opening number "I Feel Pretty" was first done on a Julie Andrews special called Julie on Sesame Street, during a medley paying tribute to Broadway. In the original sketch, the main Whatnot singer, was played here by Fran Brill but switched to Jim Henson when she puts her fangs in. In the original version, solely played by Henson, it was an Anything Muppet. The role played by Beautiful Day Monster was played by Frazzle.
  • Compressed Vice: Several scenes revolve around Gonzo being terminally Literal-Minded, a trait he doesn't demonstrate to any significant extent outside this episode.
  • Everything Sounds Sexier in French: Charles displays this in full-force by making Miss Piggy (who can't speak French) swoon just from reciting the phone number of the Paris dump.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Toward the end, Scooter tells Kermit that he's decided to quit his job as Gonzo's agent. The reason? When Scooter presented him with the standard fifty-page managerial contract, Gonzo ate it.
  • Literal-Minded:
    • This episode's panel discussion dissolves into chaos due to Gonzo misunderstanding metaphors like "keep your head down" and "we need to break down the problem into smaller pieces".
    • In a backstage scene, Gonzo comes to Kermit with a problem, and Kermit says he'll lend Gonzo an ear. Gonzo replies, puzzled, "What would I do with your ear?" "Van Gogh impressions," Kermit snarks, before telling him not to be so literal-minded.
  • Out of Focus: Gonzo's main plot in this episode is him being upset that he hasn't had a starring skit since the first three episodes.
  • Visual Pun: After Gonzo hires Scooter to be his agent, the two of them present their first idea to Kermit, a "rock act." Kermit incredulously states that Gonzo can't sing, so they offer to clarify.
Gonzo: [hitting a rock with a mallet repeatedly] ART! ART! ART!
    Kermit: OUT! OUT! OUT!

Statler: Well, I really liked this show tonight.
Waldorf: At these prices, who's gonna complain?
