Recap / The Loud House S 7 E 32 Twas The Fight Before Christmas

Go To

Lincoln works with his sisters and cousins to reunite Lynn Sr. with Uncle Lance after a five year old feud.

"Twas The Fight Before Christmas" contains examples of:

  • Alphabetical Theme Naming: The members of Lance's side of the family (aside from Lance himself) all have names that start with Sh (Sharon, Shane, Shelby, Shiloh). Shane's name is the only one of the group that does not have six letters.
  • Cover Innocent Eyes and Ears: Rita and Sharon do this with their youngest children as Lynn Sr. and Lance fight in the cabin.
  • Dissension Remorse: Lynn Sr. and Lance's feud comes to an end when they see Lincoln, Lori, and Shelby on the cracking ice, prompting them to work together at last to save their children's lives for the sake of it.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: Looking closely at Lynn Sr.'s daughters' bingo cards reveals that, aside from Lynn Sr.'s wails, moans, "Ding-dang darn it!", mentioning sciatica, and Lincoln making plans, the things Lynn Sr. has said whenever he fakes being sick include: "Lumbar", "Whimper", "Yelp!", "Rita, get the heat pad!", "Dramatic collapse", "Blame cycle", "Rita, get the ice pack!", "Fake tears", "Neck brace", "Quiet time", "Botulism", "Urgent care visit", "Resentment!!", "Turkey!", "Help!!", "Charlie horse", "Shame spiral", "3rd degree burns", and "Owie!!"
  • Hope Spot: Lynn Sr. and Lance start to get along again after reminiscing of their past and spending time tree-decorating, but then Lance sees a spider and uses Lynn Sr.'s spatula to smash it, destroying it in the process. This re-ignites the feud.
  • Obfuscating Disability: Lynn Sr. and Lance are shown to repeatedly fake having injuries every Christmas to avoid having to see each other. Their wives and kids are not fooled one bit, with Lynn Sr.'s daughters even making a bingo game about the things he does whenever he fakes being sick.
  • Ocular Gushers: Lynn Sr. and Lance burst into waterfalls of tears after saving their children from the cracking ice and symbolizing their reconciliation. Leonard also joins in.
  • Pass the Popcorn: Lana brings a bag of popcorn as Lynn Sr. fakes his injuries.
  • Remember the New Guy?: While Lance's existence has been brought up before in "Home of the Fave", his entire branch of the Loud family has not. Thus the audience is just now being informed about a group of cousins that are supposedly very close to the Loud children note  and have lamented their years apart for a long time, presenting it as a very tragic event in the family's history. Yet it is never even hinted at in previous episodes (let alone the multiple previous Christmas specials) that these cousins and the family conflict exist, nor that they were so significant to their holiday traditionsnote , yet the episode acts as if it has always been a major part of it.
  • Rule of Three: Lynn Sr. and Lance remember Leonard's mishaps cutting down Christmas trees from previous years. The first flashback shows the tree he cut down falling on Vanzilla, the second had a family of squirrels living in the tree attack him, and the third sees him cutting down a telephone pole leaving them without phone service for a month.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: Lance shares Lynn Sr.'s brunette hair and Gag Nose.
  • This Is My Side: With their feud reignited, Lynn Sr. and Lance refuse to eat Christmas dinner together eating on opposite sides of Camp Mastodon's mess hall with Leonard in the middle of the room painted with an orange stripe.
