Recap / The Loud House S 4 E 19 Sister Act House Flip

Go To

Sister Act:

To get out of doing things they don't like, Lana and Lola secretly switch places and pretend to be each other. But things get worse when they try to get out of medical appointments.

Tropes in this episode:

  • And Your Reward Is Edible: Lana wins a huge ice-cream sundae at Auntie Pam's Parlor for getting first place in a recycling contest. Unfortunately, her abscessed tooth that she was trying to hide gets even worse when she tries eating said sundae.
  • Book Ends: The episode begins with the twins switching places to avoid doing things they don't like—Lana pretends to be Lola so she doesn't have to eat Lynn Sr's hash at dinner while Lola pretends to be Lana so she can avoid taking a bath. At the end of the episode, Lola's forced to eat Lynn Sr's hash while Lana's forced to take a bath—however, the twins end up really enjoying them after actually trying them.
  • Continuity Nod: While scolding the twins for their irresponsibility, Lynn Sr. uses visiting Rita's Aunt Ruth as an example of something he doesn't like doing but does anyway in order to be responsible.
  • Didn't Think This Through: The twins switch places so they can avoid some type of medical appointment (a doctor's appointment for Lola and a dentist appointment for Lana). At first, the twins are happy to have switched to be able to avoid their appointments, but the day after it happened, Lana gets an abscessed tooth while Lola ends up getting sick with a cold; both of those things wouldn't have gotten as bad as they did if Lana and Lola actually went to their appointments because the medical professionals could have caught the early warning signs of their respective ailments and have immediately treated them before it got worse. The incident also ends up forcing the twins to confess what they did to their parents since Lynn Sr. and Rita initially thought that the doctor and the dentist failed to notice their obvious medical problems, and they end up having to do the appointments they were trying to avoid in the first place so they can both get healthy again.
  • Disappointed in You: This, combined with anger, is Mr. and Mrs. Loud's reaction after Lana and Lola confesses to their Twin Switching to get out of their respective dentist and doctor appointments.
  • Disapproving Look: Rita glares at her husband when he uses visiting her Aunt Ruth as an example of a task that he dislikes but does anyway to be responsible.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Discussed; Lynn Sr. and Rita initially assume that the obvious early warning signs of Lola's cold and Lana's abscessed tooth were missed by the doctor and the dentist during the appointments that they had attended the previous day. The parents are about to angrily call the medical professionals when the twins quickly confess that they switched places to avoid their medical appointments because they didn't want the doctor and the dentist to get blamed for something that wasn't their fault.
  • Growing Up Sucks: During her part of scolding Lana and Lola for being irresponsible, Rita points out that they're not babies anymore and that part of growing up means having to sometimes do things that you don't necessarily like and/or want to do. The twins then have to go to the appointments they avoided so they can get healthy again, and promise to go as themselves.
  • Gym Class Rope Climb: Lola uses the Twin Switching so she wouldn't have to do this.
  • Hates Baths: Lana takes advantage of her and Lola's Twin Switching to get out of taking a bath.
  • I Do Not Like Green Eggs and Ham:
    • Lola has Lana dress up as her in order to avoid having to eat Lynn Sr.'s hash, but at the end of the episode, Lola finally tries the hash and ends up really liking it.
    • Lana ends up having to take a bath at the end of the episode, but she does find a couple of things to like about them (such as how brown the water gets from her getting cleaned up and the hairball in the drain).
  • Identical Twin ID Tag: The twins are still distinguishable to the audience when they're wearing each other's clothes because Lola's hair is longer and poofier in pigtails than Lana's is. Lana's bangs also cover her forehead while Lola's are swiped to the side. In addition, when dressed as Lola, Lana wears pink blush yet doesn't wear Lola's earrings.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • The twins get this when Lola nearly exposes their twin switch to their teacher Ms. Allegra. Thankfully, Lola salvages the lie by making armpit fart noises.
    • The twins get this again when they realize that their doctor and their dentist are about to be blamed for something that wasn't their fault, which prompts them to confess to their Twin Switching.
    Lola: Wait! Don't call anyone!
    Lana: This isn't their fault!
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Lola and Lana, while switched, barely look like each other. Lola's bang is still exposed and her pigtails are poofier than Lana's, while Lana doesn't change her hairstyle and doesn't wear Lola's earrings. Strangely, nobody can tell the difference.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: One of Lola's fellow ribbon-dancers is a boy.
  • Sneeze of Doom: After Lola gets sick, she starts sneezing with enough force to send herself flying short distances.
  • Sick Episode: Due to Lola and Lana switching places to get out of going to appointments with the doctor and the dentist, Lola ends up catching a cold and Lana ends up getting an abscessed tooth, leaving the former unable to participate in a pageant and the latter unable to eat a sundae she won from a recycling contest. The twins also have to confess what they did to their parents as well as do the appointments they were trying to avoid in the first place to get healthy again. Lola states that she can't be allowed back on the ribbon-dancing circuit until she produces a note from the Center for Disease Control.
  • That Makes Me Feel Angry: Lynn Sr. and Rita don't hesitate to voice their displeasure after the twins confess that they pretended to be each other to avoid their medical appointments:
Lynn Sr.: Your mother and I are not happy that you've been lying.
    Rita: No, we're not.
  • The Tooth Hurts: Lana gets an abscessed tooth after secretly avoiding the dentist's office. It gets worse when she tries to eat the sundae she won from a recycling contest. After the twins confess to what they did, they promise to go to their appointments as themselves, with Lana stating she can't go back to Auntie Pam's until they see her dental x-rays.
  • Twin Switch: Lana and Lola decide to start switching places in order to get out of doing things that they don't like.
  • Understatement: When Lana and Lola confess what they did to their parents:
Lana: I didn't want to go to the dentist.
Lola: And I didn't want to go to the doctor, so we...
    Twins: Kinda switched places.
    Rita: Kind of?!
Lola: Kind of, totally? Actually, we've been doing it for a couple of days now to get out of all sorts of stuff.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Lynn Sr. and Rita scold the twins for their irresponsibility after they confess to switching places to get out of their medical appointments and have also been doing it for the past couple of days to avoid doing things they didn't want to do.

House Flip:

After causing Flip to get hurt, the kids sneak him into the attic to care for him without Mom and Dad knowing. Once Flip uncovers their game, however, he blackmails them into waiting on him hand and foot, lest their parents find out.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Annoying Patient: Flip quickly becomes one while under the Louds' care.
  • Banana Peel: Lincoln slips on a banana peel during Flip's play.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Downplayed for the kids. They're eventually forced to confess their accident with Vanzilla to their parents and are indefinitely stripped of their driving privileges. However, thanks to Flip's kind, convincing words after the kids took good care of him, the kids are only disallowed from using Vanzilla for a month, instead, and Flip promises to treat them all to free Flippies when that time passes.
  • Comical Overreacting: At the beginning of the episode, Lynn Sr. shouts and cries when Lori accidentally causes another dent in Vanzilla.
  • Here We Go Again!: After Flip recovers from his injuries the first time, Lynn Sr. ends up accidentally reversing Vanzilla into the same structure Lori did earlier in the episode, and both he and Rita forced to take care of Flip as he recovers again.
  • Hidden Depths: Luna knows how to modulate her voice via her smartphone.
  • Hypocritical Humor: After threatening to take away their childrens' driving privileges if Vanzilla gets damaged one more time, Mr. and Mrs. Loud say that they've got parenting down to a science, just before heading back into the house and leaving Lily out on the porch.
  • Jerkass: Flip, as usual. This time, he’s taking advantage of the kids' generosity by blackmailing them into waiting on him.
  • Pet the Dog: After everything he put the kids through, Flip manages to convince their parents to go easy on them once they find out, saying that they've taken good care of him. He also offers them free Flippies when they get the van back.
  • Pie in the Face: Lincoln flings a pie in Luan and Luna's face while acting in Flip's play.
  • Shout-Out: When Lincoln, Luna, and Luan are forced to perform for Flip, Lincoln is dressed like Steve Urkel.
  • Taking Advantage of Generosity: After Flip learns that the kids are hiding him to prevent their parents from finding out they crashed the car, Flip uses this to make the kids wait on him hand and foot.
