Go To

"Takato Case Files" is a spinoff first released on a now-defunct Mangabox app. with Yoichi Takato as the main character.

Yoichi Takato, being a gifted yet aloof student, is invited by his classmate to an "Invisible School Club" which turns out to be a "Magician Club" to loosen up. He reluctantly joins, but then gets tangled in a mystery when the club ace's head is found on display in a locked room.

Tropes include:

  • A Day in the Limelight: A story with the main antagonist as the main character? Yup!
  • Alcoholic Parent: Takato's father is never found without drinking or with a glass in this case.
  • Broken Ace: Takato's already a mess even before he finds out his mother's disciples steal her trick book.
  • But for Me, It Was Tuesday: The sentiment he gives when the culprit asks Takato what it feels like murdering someone for the first time.
Takato: ... Not really... any different than usual.
  • Furnace Body Disposal: The culprit tries to burn the missing bodies on the school festival's fire tower until Takato directly confronts them, which doubles as Fiery Cover-Up because the first victim's nails has the culprit's skin on it. Takato then finishes the job by burning the tower alongside the culprit's.
  • Decapitation Presentation: All of the murders are shown with the victims' head on display on a table.
  • He Knows Too Much: One of the victims were killed because he foolishly confronts the killer... alone. Unarmed.
  • Japanese School Club: The suspect list comes from the school's Magician Club.
  • Locked Room Mystery: The first victim's head disappears into thin air from a locked room until it's found later later in the morning.
  • Not the First Victim: Tatako's stint at the Magic Express is not his first murder. This is where he first killed someone; the culprit of the case.
  • Shut Up, Hannibal!: Takato quickly calls out the culprit's narcissism after they were being full of themselves, saying that the crime they commit wasn't beautiful at all, the motive was simple and predictable, and they lose temper too easily to become a cold-blooded killer.
  • Slasher Smile: It's not Takato without making this expression. This is why the detective handling this case immediately put a suspicion on him.
  • Street Performer: Takato has been cultivating his Stage Magician persona by performing magic tricks to kids in a park.
  • The Sociopath: What motivates the culprit to kill. They view that their lives are boring so they want to befriend Takato whom they saw to have the same "quality," but they decide to kill the club president because they think she's making the stoic Takato go soft.
