Recap / The Interns S 7 E 14

Go To

Kupitman knows that Lyuba has a list with names, sorted by the time when they had sex the last time — he hopes to end up in its "top". But... top-placed one is Lyuba herself. And second one is Varya. And third place... Kupitman gives up and asks Lyuba directly whom she knows to be in love with him. She reacts by outright laughing at him. When Kupitman proceeds to drink alone, Lyuba realises that she came too far with mocking Kupitman, and comes to reassure him that he has some girls to be in love with him, that he is not too old yet. He asks her to prove it. Meanwhile, one of his colleagues from the other department asks Bykov about some gear he borrowed from her, and he tells her that Kupitman re-borrowed it from him. Kupitman thinks that she was sent by Lyuba, starts flirting with her, and... by the point when Lyuba actually manages to find someone, Kupitman already received everything he want.

One of interns must attend work next day — on Sunday — to check the test results of Bykov's patient and either resume or cancel antibiotics. Gleb and Semyon finds the excuses to avoid this... but Phil immediately says that he has nothing which can prevent him from working. But then he catches them and calls them out on outright lying to Bykov, because their "important deeds" are beer and soccer match. He decides to slack off by himself, with a "cover story" being... heart issues. Since they received all his patients, Gleb and Semyon gets outraged, and presses Phil into telling everything to Bykov. When he refuses, they do it themselves, forcing Phil to switch Bykov's anger back to them by lying about one of his fathers' death (and they mocking him), which outrages them even more, because Bykov removed a part of their salary to pay for Phil's ticket to USA. Except... Phil never told him that, he just gave up and admitted his lie; everything about Phil's parents was Bykov's initiative, and Phil is just as outraged as them! Bykov agrees to return them their money on condition that they manage to find the five valid reason each why he should do it (them starving to death doesn't count, he can live with that).

Varya fell in love with David... and Bykov considers this to be a perfect opportunity to match her with David and force her out of his sight because she would be busy with children; one dumbass less for him to deal with. He just needs to press David a little more so he would marry Varya. Unfortunately, his efforts, in the combination with the "surprise" he previously prepared for Kisegach (a medal with silly and rather vulgar sex-related joke on reverse side) made Kisegach believe that Bykov is planning to propose to her; she's not amused when she finds out.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Dude, Not Funny!:
    • When Gleb and Semyon rats him out to Bykov for avoiding work, Phil switches Bykov's anger to Gleb and Semyon — by lying that one of his dads just died, and they mocked him for it. Bykov gets infuriated; yes, he did mocked Phil for his family in the past, but only when they were alive!
    • Both Gleb and Semyon thinks that Phil came too far with his excuses to avoid work, because they're supposed to be "little, harmless lies", not something like that story with heart issues (and definitely not something about his family; no one jokes like that!). Except... last one was Bykov's initiative. All three of them, including Phil, gets outraged.
  • Mistaken for Romance:
    • Kupitman wants somebody to hit on, and asks Lyuba for names of possible candidates (he is that lonely). Lyuba outright mocks him at first, but later agrees to help him and ask people. But her attempts to "delicately" investigate who may be secretly in love with him results in everyone thinking that it is her (because she is just as desperate as him, and everyone knows it).
    • Due to his previous discussion with Lyuba (who promised him to send "somebody" to him once she finds out someone interested, Kupitman mistakes his colleague from the other department for being send by Lyuba (in fact, she came to him only because she needs the gear Bykov borrowed from her, and Kupitman re-borrowed from Bykov), and starts flirting with her. For whatever reason, it works anyway, though we can only see Kupitman himself, post-act... just when Lyuba manages to find someone else who was genuinely interested in Kupitman. Oops.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Lyuba realises that she came too far with her mocking Kupitman, and comes to reassure him that he has some girls to be in love with him, that he is not too old yet. He asks her to prove it.
  • My New Gift Is Lame: Bykov has a surprise for Kisegach — a medal with silly (and rather vulgar) sex-related joke. But, because David accidentally gave her just enough information to know that there is a surprise, but backed out before revealing that he doesn't know for sure what it is, she expects that he plans to propose to her today (again, based on David' off-hand comment about it before he even mentioned surprise). She asks several other people, but no one could debunk her suspicions (in fact, they only makes them worse). You may imagine her disappointment when she sees the real present.
  • Out of Focus: Despite her relationship with David being what kickstarts Bykov's plot, Varya herself isn't presented in this episode.
  • The Slacker:
    • Gleb and Semyon are slacking off, leaving Phil to be the only one to do all work by himself. What's worse, they outright lied to Bykov. Phil gives them an ultimatum: either they stops here and now, or he would start slacking by himself (which would ultimately hurt them all). This threat fails to convince them, because Phil is a known Bad Liar, and if he fails even once, Bykov wouldn't trust him ever again.
    • Despite being warned by Gleb and Semyon, Phil still tries to slack off (with the "heart problems" cover story, which resulted in him being forced to impersonate a patient). Gleb and Semyon takes offence to Phil's cover story (harmless little lies is one thing, but that is where they put the line), especially since they got all his patients, and rats him out to Bykov.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Phil calls Gleb and Semyon out on (again) lying to Bykov, leaving him to do all work by himself. He gives them an ultimatum: either they stops finding excuses to slack off and help him, or he would start slacking off himself. Of course, they suggests him to try, warning him that if he fails at least once, it wouldn't work for him ever again.
  • Troll:
    • Bykov prepared a medal for Kisegach, with silly and rather vulgar sex-related joke on reverse side. It backfires, because Kisegach, with what little information she gets, comes to conclusion that Bykov plans to propose to her, and when she sees the real "surprise", well...
    • After Phil confessed in his lies to Bykov, Bykov lied to Gleb and Semyon that one of Phil's fathers had died, and Phil must return to USA; they would pay for the ticket. All three interns reacts badly when they finds out.
