Recap / The Interns S 6 E 7

Go To

Irina becomes jealous of Semyon spending time with Olga, and asks him to cut his time with her. When Olga asks him for help with moving a heavy closet, he, instead, suggests to ask Phil. This results in Phil becoming little too close to Olya, and now it's Semyon who is jealous, despite not being supposed to.

Kupitman's father Natan arrives from Israel to meet his son, and apologise for previously "stealing" his woman. Since Kupitman can't stand even hearing his father's name, Bykov agrees to help Natan; when Ivan gets drunk, his father may safely speak with him: Kupitman would think that it's just a dream. This plan fails because Kupitman just forgets this dream when he becomes sober. Natan decides to tell him directly, no matter how it would end. Unfortunately, Kupitman remembers his "dream", and rushes to an airport, to ride into Israel to his father, since he "feels" that something is wrong with him and he must apologise while he still has a chance. But instead of rushing to him, Natan plans to meet his son some another time, since he has more children to meet at different cities, and can't return just now.

Lyuba teaches Gleb how to live with limited funds. But her teaching only results in him becoming a cheapskate whom no one can stand. Ultimately, when everyone calls her out on such harmful advices, Lyuba just tells Gleb that he'd became a cheap jerk, after which he stops following her suggestions.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Archnemesis Dad: Kupitman is not in good relationship with his father Natan, because Natan previously "stole" his woman from him (it doesn't matter that said woman was his lover, while he was already married to another woman; its' still a betrayal!). In fact, he asked Bykov to never say Natan's name in his presence. One of the reasons why Natan is here is to apologise before his son and attempt to mend their relationship.
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: When Semyon realises that Phil becomes a little too close with Olya, he grumpily tells him to leave. Later, when Phil tells him about becoming friends with Olya, Lobanov angrily shouts at her to stop speaking with Phil. This is despite him not only already divorcing her, but even being in a different relationship himself (which Olya lampshades). This also offends Irina, who previously asked him to spend less time with Olga, for exactly the same reason.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Lyuba's attempts to teach Gleb how to spend his money sparingly results in him becoming a cheapskate jerk whom no one can stand. When Lyuba tries to defend him, Semyon shuts her up by telling her that "being economic" means "effectively use limited funds", not becoming a jerk who loves his money more than his friends, and then, once he realises that she's behind this, accuses her to be the worst cheapskate in the hospital, who now attempts to corrupt the other people; Varya agrees to him. Later angry Lyuba repeats all this to Gleb himself (but she insists that it was completely HIS fault).
  • Hoist by His Own Petard:
    • Lobanov's decision to send Phil to help Olga rather than do so himself sets up for their possible relationship in the future — something Semyon would rather avoid, as he still feels that no one can touch "his" girl, even if they long since broke up.
    • Since Kupitman can't stand him, his father Natan (with Bykov's help) comes to him when Kupitman gets drunk and falls asleep, and pretends to be his dream, to apologise for his past mistakes. Kupitman forgets everything when he becomes sober, but much later, when Natan decides to just tell him everything directly, Kupitman is no longer here: he suddenly remembered everything, and rushed to an airport, to ride to Israel to meet his father and apologise himself ("feeling" that something is wrong with him), not knowing that his father arrived from Israel into Moscow.
  • Hypocrite: Lyuba (herself well-known cheapskate), after being accused of "corrupting" Gleb and turning him into a copy of herself, just tells him that he's cheapskate and a jerk. She conveniently "forgets" that it's her who taught him in the first place.
  • Jerkass Ball: Lyuba, normally one of the more sympathetic characters, suddenly becomes the source of conflict in Gleb's plot due to pushing her cheapskate views on him; she then refuses to own her mistakes, and blames him for everything, despite previously encouraging such behaviour.
  • Like Father, Like Son: Kupitman's father Natan is a womaniser, too (in fact, he previously "stole" Kupitman's woman at some point, which is the source of their conflict), despite being even older, though he's more attractive, so, unlike his son, he's not a Kavorka Man.
  • Love Triangle: Now, it's Irina who's jealous of Semyon; she asks Lobanov to spend less time with Olga. When this does not work as she intended, she decides to talk with Olga instead, who tells her that she never tried to "steal" Semyon, and if anything, it's he who bothers her. When Phil accidentally reveals that Lobanov took away the flowers he intended to give to Olya to give them himself, Irina interprets this as him ignoring her request, and dumps him.
  • Never My Fault: Despite being the one who encouraged him to act like this in the first place, Lyuba never owns her mistakes and shifts the blame on Gleb.
  • Perpetual Poverty: Subverted. Gleb is constantly low on money, but that's because he lacks the skill of using his funds effectively and wastes them; Lyuba has even lower salary than him, but can afford good clothes, good food and even save some money for a vacancy in Egypt. Lyuba agrees to teach him how to spend money carefully... but goes overboard with her cheapness.
