Recap / The Interns S 6 E 8

Go To

Kisegach invited Bykov to live with her, and he agrees. But Gleb finds the keys from his mother's apartment which Bykov had leaved in on-call room, and now thinks that this is his chance to resume his money supply. He lies to his mother that his landlady kicked him out due to his debts, and he needs money. Kisegach insist that she would not give him any more money, and instead invites him (and Semyon, since they lives in same apartment) to live with her... which is a problem, since she earlier invited Bykov. Unknowingly to them, she only did this because she instantly recognised Gleb's lies, and now wants Bykov's help to press Gleb enough to admit the truth; meanwhile, Gleb realises that she didn't believe him (just because she offered to invite Lobanov, too), and suggests to exaggerate their poverty to the point that she would give them money just out of pity. At evening, the two adheres dinner at Kisegach's, but Bykov plays his part perfectly and annoys them to no end; when he starts flirting with Anastasia in front of them, Gleb decides that it's not worth it, and leaves — just as planned.

Varya needs to adhere a dentist, bad, but she's extremely afraid of dentists. Bykov forces her to adhere their dentist, Suren Tigranovich, and he indeed helps her (curing her from the phobia in process)... but Bykov (who required Suren's help, too) just escaped while Suren was busy.

Phil's patient rudely refuses to do as Phil asks, forcing him to ask Lyuba for help (she may be very convincing). Lyuba tries to teach Phil that people like this views niceness as a weakness, but he can't be rude enough. But he comes with another solution: he becomes annoyingly persistent, to the point that the patient agrees to do everything just to get rid of him.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Afraid of Doctors:
    • Varya is dreadfully afraid of dentists... but now she needs to adhere one. This stubborn refusal gets Bykov angry.
Varya: Everyone's afraid of something! Some people are afraid of darkness... some of rape... and I'm afraid of dentists!
Bykov: I'm tired of hearing this bullshit! Run to Suren Tigranovich, or I myself would rape you in this darkness! Stop this childish behaviour!
    • While he's very active in persuading Varya that she shouldn't be afraid of dentists, Bykov is no less afraid of dentists than her, and quietly escapes while dentist is busy working on Varya; in fact, Suren tries to force him to check his teeth since a lo-o-ong time ago....
  • Annoying Patient: Phil's patient is a rude and audacious jerk who blatantly ignores his orders just because he considers his card game to be more important. It takes Lyuba, who's much better at dealing with such "hard cases", to force him to do anything. She also reveals to Phil that this patient is already infamous amongst hospital's stuff for that exact behaviour.
  • Batman Gambit: Gleb's plan ultimately fails, because Kisegach recognises it as an attempt to provoke her into giving him money, and invites both Gleb and Semyon on the dinner, together with Bykov (whom she asked to annoy them until they gives up by themselves and runs away). When Bykov starts flirting with Anastasia right in front of guests, Gleb decides to just accept defeat and leave, not risking to bust them during you know what.
  • Broken Record: How Phil deals with rude and aggressive patient who has zero respect for him? By repeating his request over, and over, and over again, until he does what Phil asks, just to get rid of him. All of this without ever raising his voice or insulting the guy.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: Gleb tries to provoke his mother into resuming supplying him with money (with fake story about him being kicked out from apartment by his landlady, for his debts). Instead of this (she would not give Gleb any more money, even if it means he can no longer afford the rent), she invites him (and Semyon, since he lives with Gleb) to live in her apartment... and just today she invited Bykov to live with her, too, which Gleb knows. And it's too late to take those words back, or he would only make his situation worse. The two tries to play along, despite Bykov doing everything in his powers to make them uncomfortable (as part of his role), but ultimately gives up when Bykov makes it clear that he intends to bed Anastasia.
  • Hypocrite: Bykov scolds Varya for being childish in her fear of dentist. But then turns out that he's actively avoiding him himself, while Varya, once pushed, does what's needed and stops fearing.
  • My God, You Are Serious!: When Gleb tell Semyon that they would live together with Kisegach and Bykov, Lobanov initially laughs... but then cuts his laugh abruptly when he realises that this is not a joke.
  • Out-of-Character Alert: Gleb instantly realises that Kisegach didn't believe his lies, and has some hidden plan, because she invited not only him, but also Semyon; both agrees that she wouldn't do that without hidden motives.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When Bykov starts flirting with Kisegach and makes it clear that he's planning to bed her, Gleb decides to not wait till it goes anywhere, and leave, with Semyon following.
Semyon: Are you thinking that they would really do it?
Gleb: Are you nuts? I don't want to even try to find out. Let's go.
  • Start X to Stop X: How Phil may deal with a rude and aggressive patient? By becoming even more rude and aggressive than him. This worked for Lyuba (who suggested this plan in the first place), for Phil... no so much. But he replaces this with utter annoyance.
  • The Tooth Hurts: Varya feels a strong tooth pain, and needs a dentist, bad. Unfortunately, she's dreadfully afraid of them.
  • Troll:
    • Kisegach invites Bykov to live with her, and offers him a copy of the keys from her apartment. Bykov seemingly refuses and leaves... but then returns and takes those keys. He even mentions that the only reason why he did this is to see her face.
    • When Kisegach invites Gleb and Semyon to live with her, as part of the plan to make Gleb back out on his own scheme, Bykov intentionally acts to make Gleb maximally uncomfortable to stay near them, by playing on his discomfort about their relationship. Up to and including pretending that he's gonna bed her right now, which he loudly announces.
