Recap / The Interns S 5 E 12

Go To

Bykov and Kisegach are tired of Kupitman constantly overestimating severity of his condition and thinking that he's gravely sick. When he starts acting like he's terminally ill again, they decides to just play along until he calms down by himself. This actually makes the situation even worse, forcing them to find Kupitman and apologise... but, as it turns out, he was aware all along and tried to take revenge on them. Unfortunately for Kupitman, this goes completely wrong and they takes him by surprise.

Varya tells Lyuba that their electrician, Ivanovich, started rumours about his "sexual adventures" with Lyuba. She tells him to disprove his lies, or else. This doesn't work, and now Lyuba wants to just kick his ass. Unfortunately, Galya now thinks that there may be some truth in those rumour after all; otherwise, Lyuba would not react so intensely.

Phil is in depression because his girlfriend, Jessica, dumped him — in a very cruel manner! Gleb and Semyon just mocks him, while Varya and Lyuba attempts to comfort him. But Gleb suggests him to just find somebody for one night, as a "revenge" against Jess... and Phil considers this to actually be a good idea.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Can't Hold His Liquor: It takes fifteen minutes for Phil to become wasted... while Gleb and Semyon remains almost sober despite drinking together with him.
  • Compressed Vice: It's the first and last mention of Kupitmans' hypochondria.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Electrician Ivanovich, who was a minor character in one episode all the way back into second season, appears again, and is crucial for Lyuba's plot.
  • Epic Fail: Kupitman's plan involved him lying in the morgue and waiting for Bykov and Kisegach, so he would give them an epic What the Hell, Hero? moment... but they wasted too much time, and he fell asleep; he awakes when they comes for his head, angry.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong:
    • Bykov and Kisegach decides to deal with hypochondriac Kupitman by playing along with his delusions and providing him with "proofs" of his latest illness until he sees that they are making stuff up. This works at first (he recognises a real reason for his initial condition), but Bykov and Kisegach fails to notice the moment when it would be better to stop, and tells Kupitman that he's indeed terminally ill, making his condition even worse than before. Or so it seems, cause Kupitman again tries to play everyone.
    • Gleb attempts to bring Phil into a night club, so he can find a girl for one night (to forget his breakup with Jessica). This works at first, but when Phil's "new girl" mentions that she has a boyfriend who moved to USA, but considers it to be okay to cheat on him with Phil, he snaps on her and calls her whore (and tells her that her boyfriend is saving lives, while she's betraying him, despite said boyfriend being a designer, not medic unlike Phil himself), offending her. After that they decides to just get drunk.
  • Hypochondria: Kupitman always overestimates severity of his condition, and mistakes something minor or even harmless for terminal disease, scaring Bykov and Kisegach. Not only this, but he is incredibly stubborn in his delusions and refuses to believe the truth when told. Both Bykov and Kisegach are tired of this and decides to work together to snap him out of his latest "illness" before he wastes too much of their time.
  • Jerkass: Phil and Jessica made an oath to be faithful to each other. It took couple of months for her to dump him once he went to Russia, and, for bonus points, she did this via Facebook, not even telling Phil personally.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Kupitman is a known hypochondriac, and once again thinks that he has a lethal illness; Bykov and Kisegach, tired of him, just plays along, which seemingly backfires, but then it turns out that Kupitman had caught them long ago, and now plays them, to make them realise how bad it was and regret it. The plan fails miserably, cause Kupitman accidentally falls asleep while waiting for them in a morgue.
  • Tsundere: Galya considers Lyuba attacking Ivanovich to be a "proof" of her secretly loving him — after all, why she would get so angry if she feels nothing for him?
