Recap / The Interns S 4 E 2

Go To

Kisegach wants to know what the hospital's personnel thinks on her, and asks Lyuba for help (she would be rewarded with a money bonus). Lyuba interprets this as a request to become her personal snitch, and refuses... but she tells about this to Kupitman, who immediately offers his "help", in hope to receive those money himself. Kupitman plans to just forge the document full of fake positive opinions, but Bykov interferes and offers him to do exactly opposite of that: he already has an idea how to exploit this situation in their favour. Unfortunately, Lyuba decides to just bring Kisegach the fake positive opinions by herself, which results in Kisegach busting the whole scheme... and learning who is behind it.

Alisa accuses Varya of being jealous, because she still can't forget Gleb. In attempt to prove otherwise, Varya lies that she has a new boyfriend. But Gleb almost immediately learns the truth when he asks Lyuba, and now Varya must somehow find this "boyfriend" until the end of a day. When all Lyuba's attempts to find a new "boyfriend" for Varya fails (because Varya rejects them all), Varya just hires a stripper to pretend to be her boyfriend. It fools Gleb, but not Alisa (who previously saw this guy "in action"); fortunately, Alisa agrees to keep it secret.

Lobanov's patient knows many cool tricks. Lobanov, to prove that he's cool too, tries to copy them, but consistently fails and only ends up injuring himself. Ultimately, the patient tells him that those tricks are his way to deal with boredom (he's a night guard), and tells him that him being a doctor already gives him much more interesting life.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Be Yourself: In the end, the patient tells Semyon that him being a doctor already gives him way more interesting life than the patient himself would ever have; all those tricks are to compensate for boredom of being a night guard.
  • Blatant Lies: Kupitman, when tasked with a social poll about personnel's opinions on Kisegach, decides to just create a fake flattery-filled document and receive "free" money; plus possible extra: happy boss is a generous boss. But then Bykov steps in and suggests to instead do exactly opposite: fake the extremely harsh poll results, and then exploit the situation in their favour, as Kisegach would be eager to "atone" for her mistakes. Separately from them, Lyuba tries to do exactly what Kupitman has planned initially, which Kisegach instantly recognises as fake. Unfortunately for Bykov, she then realises that Kupitman's poll results must be fake, too, because they're just too harsh to be believable.
  • Epic Fail: Lobanov tries to repeat his patient's cool tricks; it only gets him injured, in very moronic ways:
    • Semyon tries to repeat his patient's knife trick, and almost cuts his thumb, with the patient being forced to give him first aid.
    • After first failure, Semyon tries to repeat another trick (which involves catching pills with his mouth in flight). After several attempts, he succeeds, but almost chocks himself, only saved by the patient.
    • The third time, Semyon tries to repeat the patient throwing a cigarette right into ashcan. Unfortunately, the trick involves lit cigarettes (and it wouldn't be as cool if you don't smoke them before throwing); after enough failed attempts, Semyon gets sick.
  • Fake Relationship: Varya lies to Alisa that she has a new boyfriend. Gleb learns from Lyuba that this is not true, but, rather than admit the lie, Varya asks Lyuba for help — only to reject every man whom Lyuba suggests as a cover "boyfriend". She then decides to just hire a stripper to play her boyfriend for this evening. This fools Gleb... but not Alisa, who previously saw that stripper "in action". Alisa knows that he is not Varya's boyfriend, but promises to not tell Gleb.
  • Five-Finger Fillet: Lobanov's patient is a master of knife tricks, striking with a knife between his fingers at high speed without ever hitting himself. Semyon claims that he mastered it while serving in the army, and decides to prove it; it results in him injuring his fingers, fortunately not too severely.
  • Girlfriend in Canada: Varya's "boyfriend" is so busy, he can't appear anywhere where Gleb can see him at all. Unfortunately, Varya already promised to bring him to a restaurant with Gleb and Alisa. She now must find someone to impersonate that boyfriend.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Lobanov's patient is a master of knife tricks. Lobanov claims that he is no less skilled, only to immediately hit his thumb, forcing the patient to give him first aid.
  • Secret-Keeper: Alisa instantly breaks Varya's lie about her "boyfriend", as she knows the dude and that he's actually a stripper (she saw him "at work"). She still promises Varya that she wouldn't tell Gleb, to spare her further humiliation.
  • The Stool Pigeon: Lyuba refuses Kisegach's request to "collect personnel's opinions" because she doesn't want to become a snitch. Unfortunately, she tells about this to Kupitman, who, when he hears about a possible reward, decides to do this by himself. But instead of really doing this, he decides to just fake the positive opinions, because Kisegach has no means to verify them, and happy boss is a generous boss. But before he proceeds to do this, Bykov finds out and decides to add some... "critique", because he already has a plan how to exploit this situation to their favour.
  • Sunk Cost Fallacy: Lobanov really doesn't know when to stop. His attempts to prove to his patient that he is as "cool" as him (by repeating his cool tricks) only results in Lobanov being injured — over and over, as the more he screws up, the more important it gets to do something right. He only stops when the patient tells him that he only mastered those tricks because he works as a night guard, and they are his only way to fight with boredom, while Semyon has much more interesting life, as a doctor.
