Recap / The Interns S 2 E 9

Go To

Lyuba gifts Levin a self-made deer-decorated sweater, unaware that the word "deer" is used by Lobanov as insulting nickname for Levin. When Semyon and Gleb sees this sweater, they starts mocking Levin again, forcing him to lie that it was a gift from... his mother. Since Levin doesn't need it anyway, Gleb takes the sweater for himself. This eventually leads to Lyuba finding out, and feeling insulted by Levin not valuing her gift; Levin now must somehow find a way to apologise.

Kisegach tries to dissuade Varya out of relationship with Gleb... not because she doesn't trust Varya, but because she doesn't trust Gleb. Kisegach fears that Gleb would cheat on Varya with the first attractive girl he meets; Varya decided to test Gleb, with her (female) patient's help. She eventually realises that Gleb is faithful to her, and tells him a real reason why she tested him. Kisegach overhears their conversation, only to get busted by Gleb (who now wants some explanations).

Lobanov tries to hide the real reason why he and Olya can't have children from his wife (being too ashamed of it), and asks Bykov for help, until he can deal with the problem; when Bykov denies, he tries to ask Kupitman. Kupitman has an idea how to help him (with a fake "hyperactive spermatozoids" cover story). Once Bykov finds out, he decided to press Lobanov into admitting the truth... by forcing him to do heavy exercises.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Am I Just a Toy to You?: Kisegach warns Varya about Gleb, since she doesn't believe that their relationship would last for long: Gleb is too... polygamous for this. Varya doesn't believe her... at first. When her new patient turns out to be an attractive woman, she decides to "test" Gleb, but Varya's suspiciousness quickly goes too far (even said patient tells her so); fortunately, Varya realises that Gleb is faithful to her.
  • Blatant Lies: Lobanov's cover story for his sterility (suggested by Kupitman) is obviously fake ("too fast spermatozoids", really?). Olga still believes this.
  • Cool and Unusual Punishment: To force Lobanov into admitting the truth, Bykov decides to play along with his "story", but insist on the "special treatment": heavy exercises; lots of heavy exercises. When this fails, he suggests to just invite Olga's mother to live with them; after this, Lobanov finally snaps and admits that it was a lie.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: While it is not the first time he was named a "deer", mostly by Lobanov, this actually becomes a plot point in this episode, since Lyuba, unaware of this, gifts Levin with deer-decorated sweater.
  • Fidelity Test: After Kisegach tells Varya that Gleb may cheat on her sooner or later, she decides to "test" him by hiring her attractive patient to flirt with him, twice (both times he rejects her); after the second time, even the patient tells her that she acts like a paranoiac. Later, Gleb meets another girl, and, being already tired of Varya's "tests", decides to troll Varya and act a like horny jerk... only to find that this girl is unrelated to Varya (who had long gave up on her plan).
  • Homemade Sweater from Hell: Why, of all things, this sweater must be with a deer on it, of all things? Lyuba, you couldn't have done this worse even if you tried.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Levin tries to lie to Lyuba about the sweater she gifted to him, only for Gleb in said sweater to appear and disprove every. Single. Lie.
  • My New Gift Is Lame: While Levin at least tried to hide what he really thinks about Lyuba's gift, what he gifts her in attempt to apologise gets mistaken by her for a declaration of love, and when it turns out to be a pair of earrings, she reacts negatively.
  • Obnoxious In-Laws: What finally breaks Lobanov into admitting the truth, when heavy exercises fails? Bykov suggesting to invite Olga's mother.
  • Refuge in Audacity: By the end of the episode, Gleb gets approached by another girl. Gleb, already knowing about Fidelity Test, but not that it has ended after two attempts, decides that screw this, and starts acting like a horny jerk, just to annoy Varya who supposedly spies on them. Turns out that she's not, and that Gleb just harassed this girl for no reason, making her angry, and him looking like an idiot.
  • Unwanted Gift Plot: Lyuba makes a sweater for Levin. This is not bad by itself... but she chose to decorate it with a deer of all things, unaware that Lobanov often mistreats Levin by calling him "deer". To not harm her feelings, Levin decides to wear this sweater, predictable with results, once Semyon and Gleb finds out.
  • Who Would Be Stupid Enough?: When Bykov refuses to help Kupitman, he outright tells him that he doesn't know an idiot who would give Semyon his fake document. Cut to Lobanov asking Kupitman, who agrees to help (right before suggesting alternative way).
