Recap / The Interns S 2 E 15

Go To

Levin takes away erotic magazine from his underage patient... and gets busted with it by Lyuba. When attempt to explain it fails, he once again asks Kupitman for help. Kupitman suggests him to just drop erotic magazine with males where Lyuba can find it, and then bust her with it, so they would be even. The plan fails when Levin gets busted again, this time with homoerotic magazine. Lyuba, fearing that Levin can be bisexual (and that he can possibly dump her for some attractive man), also asks Kupitman for help; after their conversation, she decides to try and "fix" Levin... only to learn about the true origin of that magazine. They then cooperates to play a prank on Kupitman.

Varya' patient speaks almost entirely in profanities. She doesn't like this, and asks Lobanov for help. Semyon proceeds to "translate" the patient's not-ending torrent of profanities into "normal" Russian, but he quickly gets taken away by Bykov, and now Varya must somehow deal with the situation by herself; she fails.

Kisegach confronts Bykov about his interns' (specifically, Lobanov and Romanenko) lack of progress, and forces him to finally start improving the situation and give them an opportunity to "win" by themselves for once. So, Bykov cooperates with one of the patients to "create" House-like challenge for them. Bykov "gives" his patient fake illness, just to test his interns. To his surprise, they manages to not only find this (fake) illness... but also his real diagnosis.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Ask Astupid Question: When Levin asks Kupitman why he has so many erotic journals, including homoerotic ones, Kupitman answer that, as venereologist, he has all kinds of magazines, up to and including "with characters from Disney cartoons". Levin then asks if he really has such magazines.
  • Cluster Bleep-Bomb: Varya's patient speaks almost entirely in bleeped-out profanities. Varya doesn't like this and wants him to stop. She asks Lobanov for help, only for Lobanov to start talking with the patient "in his language", and then "translating" this into "normal" Russian for Varya. Unfortunately, Bykov quickly takes Lobanov away, forcing Varya to find another way to deal with the situation.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Invoked by Lyuba, as part of her and Levin's revenge prank on Kupitman. Kupitman once again tries to manipulate Levin and Lyuba for his own amusement. This time it backfires, as they learns the truth and cooperates to fight back. Levin pretends that he really is gay... and lusts for Kupitman himself. Then angry Lyuba confronts Kupitman about this, shouting that it was his fault that Levin became like this.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Kupitman just can't resist manipulating the other people for his sick amusement. This time, after his advice to Levin causes him to be Mistaken for Gay by Lyuba, instead of just explaining the situation to Lyuba, he decides to play along with her mistake and tell Lyuba that Levin is bi, and that Lyuba must "save" him before it's too late.
  • Mistaken for Gay: Levin's attempt to "retaliate" on Lyuba completely fails when he gets busted by her with homoerotic magazine (which was intended for her). Fortunately, Levin manages to explain her the truth.
  • Not in Front of the Kid: Varya counted on her patient being ashamed to swear in front of the child. He is; unfortunately, he's only able to hold himself for less than a minute. Good luck to explain this to the kid's mother, Varya.
  • Not What It Looks Like: Levin gets busted with erotic magazine by Lyuba... except it was not his magazine; he took it away from his (underage) patient. He later gets into even more awkward situation when he gets busted with homoerotic magazine, this time due to following Kupitman's advice (which, as always, backfired).
  • Shout-Out: Lots to House in Romanenko/Lobanov's plot, with Bykov as House (complete with walking cane, ball, whiteboard, mentioning of lupus and "everybody lies" quote). Bykov even gets outright called "Doctor House" by Kisegach.
  • Translator Buddy: Lobanov helps Varya to "translate" her patient's Cluster Bleep-Bomb into "normal" Russian. Unfortunately, Bykov soon takes Lobanov away, forcing Varya to find another way to deal with the situation.
