Recap / The Good Fight S 06 E 05

Go To

Liz is on a morning talkshow and criticizes Ginny Thomas, Justice Clarence Thomas's wife's actions in the White House. The camera man does a finger gun shot toward her as she is leaving, causing her to decide to "get real" about security at the firm. Diane's therapist has gone away and left his wife to fill his position. A wealthy man's wife wants him to sign a push-nup, a contract that commits him to reimburse her for bearing, birthing, and raising his child.

Tropes:

  • Affectionate Nickname: Ginny called her deprogrammer Elliot William Banger "Bang-Bang".
  • As the Good Book Says...: The judge in the push-nup case decides to refer to the fetus as "the child". This, along with her agreeing with the pro-lifers in the gallery, clues the lawyers in that she is Christian, and start arguing Biblical law and quoting the Bible.
  • The Bus Came Back:
    • Elbeth Tascioni shows up to represent the wife who wants a push-nup.
    • Liz's ex Del shows up.
  • Call-Back:
    • The firm decides to up Marissa's security after the assassination attempt on her father.
    • Marissa and Jay go to the shooting range, and he tries to instruct her how to shoot, but she already knows because she was in IDF.
    • Jay joins a resistance group, as did Diane in season 3.
  • Conspiracy Theorist:
    • Marissa checks out one on the net, who lists a number of signs there's a civil war going on.
    • "Ginny Thomas" is convinced the 2020 election was stolen.
  • Mistaken for Terrorist: Two men follow Marissa. She thinks they're jew-hating terrorists. They turn out to be FBI Agents assigned to look out for her.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Subverted. The two men who stalk Marissa neglect to inform anyone that they're there for her protection, and it ends with Jay almost getting shot at.
  • Ripped from the Headlines: Liz criticizes Ginny Thomas's real-life actions.
  • Shout-Out: Liz watches "Below Deck" with her son. "Ginny Thomas" does too.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Like so many before him, Ri'Chard makes the mistake of dismissing Elsbeth as a scatterbrained moron until she starts cleaning his clock in court.
