Recap / The Good Fight S 06 E 01

Go To

Downtown Chicago is in disarray because of riots. Marissa has passed the bar and is a first-year associate. A woman sues Chumhum over a sexual assault she suffered in their virtual reality, which is entered with a vvisor and a suit. The firm has a new name partner. Carmen is introduced to a new client by Mr. Lester: a drug-lord named Ben Baruch who is accused of murder.

Julius, Diane and Jay try the virtual reality hardware for themselves. Jay sees the alleged rape victim approach her alleged rapist in-game, and Diane meets an advertising bot who suggests she try a version of ketamin treatment to deal with her lingering sense of déja vu.

Unhappy with her demotion to desk work, Marissa calls her father.

Tropes:

  • Call-Back:
    • Birds smash into Diane's window. Marissa figures it must be the tear gas, but it gives Diane a Madeline Starkey déja vu.
    • Liz asks Diane if she is planning to sabotage her again, as in the previous season.
  • Continuity Nod: Liz and Diane discuss the new partner, and figure the bosses let Allegra go because they wanted a man.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: The new name partner, Ri'Chard. E likes to stand in a circle with his associates, sometimes to pray, sometimes to demand that they complain on pain of getting fired.
  • Déjà Vu: Diane has déja vecu, which is déja vu for a whole day or more.
  • Precision F-Strike: Carmen is understandably stressed by having to deal with murderers in secret, and snaps at Marissa that she doesn't have time to help her get used to the job. Marissa is hurt and tells her to go fuck herself.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Trick Bomb: Someone throws a grenade into an elevator full of people. Turns out to be made of rubber.
