Oscar Rivi is suing Harbor Hospital for the death of his daughter to COVID. A doctor has made secret videos accusing the hospital of racial bias, but she can't be deposed because she dies from COVID too.
Kurt has switched lawyers from Diane to Julius. Agent Starkey tries to bait Diane into turning on him. It just makes her mad.
Jay discovers that David Lee saved his life.
Tropes:
- Call-Back: The case reminds Jay of his own bout with COVID in the season premiere. He has flashbacks, and ends up remembering that a lot of covid deaths in black people were listed as pneumonia.
- Conspiracy Theorist: Madeline Starkey shows up and tells Diane Kurt has bullets with the initials of two Illinois legislators engraved on them. When asked, Kurt explains that the letters stand for tungsten-matrix (toxic) and bismuth-tin (non-toxic).
- Fall Guy: Diane tells the lady from the NRA group not to make Kurt this.
- Mistaken for Racist: Zigzagged.
- The hospital administrators deny giving Pia less treatment because she was latinx. It eventually comes out that she got super-special treatment because everyone was afraid of what her father, a known mobster, would do to them if she died.
- At the same time it is revealed that during covid, the hospital sent many people of color to "the Pit", an equipment-less waiting room in the basement, to die.
- The Scapegoat: The Feds are after Kurt because they want this for the insurrection.
