Well, this is awkward...

Despite everyone else’s doubts, Shaun is hopeful that Carly is truly fine with his friendship with Lea. Shaun wants to perform an experimental treatment that would make a young boy, born without a fully formed trachea, to finally speak, but the patient's parents are dubious.

  • Beat: When Lea takes Shaun's food without asking permission, Shaun says she is urinating on his leg. Lea is silent for a few seconds (and trying not to laugh) before she asks Shaun to explain what he meant by that (actually, it's a metaphor Morgan used earlier to explain that Lea is trying to brand Carly her domain about Shaun).
  • Bowdlerize: During the karaoke scene featuring the song "Super Bass" by Nicki Minaj, the line "Somebody please tell them who the eff I is" is sung by Shaun as "...who the heck I is", and the camera angles are strategically placed such that the original line on the karaoke screen is either out of view or obscured by the group.
  • Boy of the Week: Lea has a boyfriend who never appears again.
  • Hate at First Sight: To no one's surprise, Lea and Morgan barely exchange half a dozen words and already hate each other.
  • Friend Versus Lover: Morgan immediately tells Shaun that Carly is not satisfied with his friendship with Lea, and also that Lea is being possessive, using the fact that Lea is stealing food from his plate as evidence. Lea makes it clear to Shaun and Carly that Morgan is completely wrong... but the events in the karaoke scene say otherwise...
  • Just Friends: Lea makes it clear to Carly that she is only friends with Shaun and that there is no love interest between them. Her actions throughout the entire episode state something quite different...
  • Love Epiphany: A rare case where it is a third person who realizes this about a possible couple. During the karaoke scene, it's terribly obvious to Carly that Shaun and Lea are in love with each other, and worse, they both refuse to admit it. At the end of the episode, Carly breaks up with Shaun for that reason.
  • Master of the Mixed Message: Lea, to the point that Morgan interprets her actions as "Marking Territory in Shaun".
  • Ship Sinking: Carly decides to end her relationship with Shaun permanently.
  • Taking the Heat: Park confesses that he reported to Lim about Melendez's favoritism for Claire. However, it is revealed that it was actually Morgan, and that Park just lied to Claire to stop investigating further, when their main concern should be with the patients.
