Go To

A suspicious Rose asks neighbor Barbara Weston (Kristy McNichol) to investigate her new boyfriend, Karl. Blanche learns the truth about her family history.

Tropes:

  • Card-Carrying Villain: The Cheeseman is rather proud of being featured over six times on America's Most Wanted.
Cheeseman: That last episode was the highest rated one ever. Ever!
Dorothy: It must be a good feeling.
Cheeseman: It's more of an acknowledgement.
  • Discriminate and Switch: Blanche has to verify her family tree as "100% percent pure Confederate stock" to achieve membership in the "Daughters of the Old South," only to learn to her shock that her great-grandmother was in fact from Buffalo, New York and her last name was Feldman (clubs such as those often were, and in some cases still are, highly Anti-Semitic.) After her initial plan to lie doesn't work, she confesses at the podium. When she reveals her great-grandmother was Jewish, they barely react. When she reveals her great-grandmother was a "Yankee," the club members begin fainting in the aisles.
  • Evil All Along: Rose's new boyfriend turns out to be the mobster who sent Miles into hiding in the first place, and is using her to weed out his location.
  • Still Fighting the Civil War: The Daughters of the Old South. These women are unapologetically pro-Confederate - to the point where a woman is denied entry if it turns out one of her ancestors did so much as sell a horseshoe to a Union soldier. Their meetings even feature re-enactments of Confederate victories during the war, leading Dorothy to snark: "It's hard to believe they couldn't get Federal funding for this." Thus, Blanche is horrified when researching her family tree to apply for membership, and it turns out one of her ancestors is Jewish - and from Buffalo, New York.
  • Witless Protection Program: Miles returns with a new identity as an Amishman, only for Rose's new boyfriend to be The Cheeseman - the very mobster he was hiding from - recognizing Mile and holding everyone hostage until their neighbor, Barbara, a cop, comes in to save them.
