Recap / The Golden Girls S 02 E 02 Ladies Of The Evening

Go To

Dorothy, Rose, and Blanche win tickets to attend a post-premiere movie party with Burt Reynolds. However, a hitch in their plan occurs when they are mistaken for prostitutes.

Tropes:

  • All Women Are Lustful: When Burt Reynolds shows up to take Sophia to lunch, he casually asks her, "Which one's the slut?" - to which Blanche, Dorothy, and Rose all raise their hands and cheerfully exclaim, "I am!"
  • The Cameo: Burt Reynolds at the end of the episode.
  • Celebrity Paradox: Rose lists off some of the celebrities that will be attending the premiere of Burt Reynolds's new movie. Charles Nelson Reilly is on the list; Betty White made several appearances on Match Game with Reilly during the 1970s and '80s.
  • Ironic Echo / Rule of Three: Whenever Sophia complains about not being invited to meet Burt Reynolds with the others...
Dorothy/Rose: She'll get over it. And even if she doesn't, who cares? We're going to meet Burt Reynolds!
    • When the girls are locked up on suspicion of prostitution and Sophia comes to bail them out, only to learn that she's still not invited along, she snatches the tickets out of Dorothy's hands through the bars and responds to her pleas with:
Sophia: You'll get over it, Dorothy. And if you don't, who cares? I'M ON MY WAY TO SEE BURT REYNOLDS!!!
  • Mistaken for Prostitute: The girls were swept up in a prostitution sting because Blanche mistook a brothel for a hotel.
  • Seduction-Proof Marriage: When the girls are arrested on charges of prostitution. Dorothy offers (sincerely) to explain things to the officer in private, but he takes it for a come-on and says he's happily married.
