A Plot: Beverly steps in as the substitute PE teacher at William Penn after Coach Mellor gets injured, and turns it into a Jazzercise class that Adam reluctantly attends...unlike Brea and Dave Kim, who are genuinely enthused.

B Plot: Geoff and Barry want to be accepted for the same medical internship and end up competing with each other to get it.

  • Bait-and-Switch: When Beverly hears from Adam that Coach Mellor got injured moving a car that a student was trapped under, she asks if he was trying to save him. Adam states that he was actually trying to put more pressure on the kid in order to help toughen him up, and a nearby Mr. Glascott admits he's felt the same way before.
  • Call-Back: In The Tag, Adam decides to take some of the footage he's recorded in past episodes (like Barry's dunks and Erica talking about making her band "The Dropouts") and make them more interesting by adding comedic fart noises, though Dave Kim isn't amused by the lack of class.
  • Dark Horse Victory: Geoff and Barry getting caught up in their competition leads to them embarrassing themselves and a third person applying for the internship getting the position. Afterwards, Joanne and Erica convince them to apologize to each other and admit they'd have preferred the other one getting the position instead of the third guy.
  • Embarrassment Plot: About halfway through the A Plot, after Beverly's accidental fart, the rest of the storyline focuses on the students making fun of Beverly and Adam having to be convinced to stand up for her even though he might be shunned by the other students (and even though Beverly's constantly embarrassed him in the past). In the end, he decides he's alright with being embarrassed, as long as Bev's no longer embarrassed by herself.
  • Extreme Doormat: Erica's worried that Geoff's going to lose the internship to Barry despite being the better candidate because of how bombastic Barry can be, convincing Geoff of how fast he'll cave by convincing him to eat Indian food for supper in two sentences despite how it gives him a skin rash.
  • I Let You Win: Originally, both Barry and Geoff plan to step down and let the other one take the internship, thinking that the other one wouldn't beat him in a fair competition. However, Geoff gets suspicious when Barry steps down before he does, and the ensuing admittance of motivations leads to both boys deciding to genuinely compete for the position.
  • It's All About Me: While talking about whether he should compete with Barry for the internship, Erica reminds Geoff of the time Barry forgot his lunch, tried to steal Geoff's pudding, and then called Geoff selfish when he got upset.
  • Personality Swap: The first day of competing for the internship, Erica convinces Geoff to be more of a bombastic go-getter, while Joanne convinces Barry to restrain himself and act nicer, leading to them acting more like the other than themself.
  • Title Drop: Beverly directly refers to her PE class as Schoolercise when asked by Adam what she's planning to do as their substitute.
  • Toilet Humour: While teaching her Schoolercise class, Beverly accidentally farts while stretching, and ends up so ashamed that she runs out of the room and hides in a janitor's closet. Later, in The Tag, Adam's inspired to add fart noises to scenes he's recorded in the past.
