Recap / The Goldbergs S 3 E 15 Weird Al

A Plot: When Dana comes to town, Adam wants to spend a romantic weekend together and starts with the "greatest hits" of their childhood toys and food. When that doesn't go over well, he announces they're going to their first concert, but Dana loses interest when Adam gets tickets to his favorite "rock god", "Weird Al" Yankovic.

B Plot: Barry signs up to be a peer counselor, which he thinks means that he is now a licensed medical psychiatrist, and can advise anyone on anything. This leads to Erica stepping in to help the people Barry talks to, and Barry challenging her to a "counsel-off", with the winner being whoever can help Murray feel less depressed.

  • As Himself: Weird Al.
  • Growing Up Sucks: With advice from Weird Al himself, Beverly tries to help Adam and Dana get back together with a photo slideshow of their past together, but it only makes the kids realize how much they've grown both up and apart since then, and that they're better off no longer dating.
  • Shout-Out: This episode features yet another Say Anything...-style boombox scene, though intentionally calling back to the first, with Dana playing Weird Al's "King of Suede" on Adam's lawn as her way of saying goodbye.
  • The Unsmile: Barry and Erica try to help Murray with depression, even asking him to smile. When he does so, they're horrified by it.
  • Who Writes This Crap?!: In The Tag, Adam sends a demo of a Barry themed cover of the song "Wang Chung (Everybody Have Fun Tonight)" to Weird Al. It doesn't work for him since there's really no context to who's being talked about.
