A Plot: Adam is frightened about doing the President's Fitness Test at school. Beverly doesn't think he should have to, so she plans to go directly to President Reagan, much to Murray's dismay.
B Plot: Barry attempts to make friends with Erica's French pen pal who is visiting, but Erica chooses to humiliate him by giving him silly things to say in French.
- My Hovercraft Is Full of Eels: When Barry is trying to hit on the French exchange student staying with the Goldbergs, Erica "translates" his rap song into French for him. He performs the piece blissfully unaware that he is confessing his lifelong bed-wetting habit which has defeated even the strongest rubber sheet.
- Race for Your Love: Erica tries to make it up to Barry by (falsely) claiming that her pen pal truly enjoyed his company, but he interprets it as a love confession and chases her down to the airport. It ends with Barry getting kisses on his cheeks (as a farewell gesture), and his car getting towed.
- You Are Better Than You Think You Are: Despite Beverly actually getting paperwork that can excuse Adam from the fitness test, Murray gives a pep talk to Adam about how he can face his fears instead of cowering behind his mother for the rest of his life, and Adam decides to take the fitness test anyways.
