Recap / The Ghost And Molly McGee S 2 E 16 Nin-Dependence

Go To

After a fall ends up causing her to sprain her arm, the McGees decide that Grandma Nin can no longer live on her own and start to smother her in their home.

Tropes:

  • A Day in the Limelight: This episode mostly focuses on Nin, who keeps getting tired of her family's overprotectiveness, so she tries to hide from them.
  • An Aesop: A twofer:
    • You shouldn't go overboard when protecting your guest. It's also important to give them some alone time every now and then.
    • Like it or not, you’re going to get older. Part of getting older means that there are going to be one or two things you can’t do anymore without help, so you’ll have to be willing to accept that sometimes.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: While they definitely went way too far with watching over Grandma Nin and making sure she was taken care of, the McGees did have a point, as Nin later acknowledged, about her not being able to live on her own anymore since she DID end up falling down and was not able to get up, and would’ve likely stayed there for who knows how long if Patty and her friends hadn’t shown up. They all agree to a compromise by allowing Nin to stay at the retirement home instead, where she can be properly cared for while still being able to have her “Nin-dependence”.
  • The Bus Came Back: Bobby Daniels makes his first speaking appearance since "The Bad Boy Bobby Daniels". (He had a silent cameo in Davenports On Demand.)
  • Didn't Think This Through: Grandma Nin ties her cell phone to a dog to fool the McGees who were tracking her signal. Later on, when she falls while alone, she laments that she shouldn't have done that as she is unable to call for help with it.
  • Impairment Shot: Immediately after managing to escape the McGees, Nin goes dizzy and falls with the camera showcasing her point of view being distorted.
  • My Beloved Smother: Inverted. It’s Nin, the grandmother of the McGees, who is smothered by her daughter and the family after she has a bad fall and injures herself.
  • Nothing Is the Same Anymore: As of this episode, Grandma Nin no longer lives in Florida and has moved into the Brighton retirement home instead.
  • Request for Privacy: At the bathroom, Grandma Nin asks Scratch to leave it to have a little privacy.
  • Safety Worst: The extremes the McGees go to in order to keep Grandma Nin safe annoy her to the point that she lies to her family and runs away.
  • Take a Third Option: Grandma Nin decides to move into the Brighton retirement home so she can have her own independence and be properly cared for.
