Carlton: Hold 'em yourself Will. That's Mimi Mumford. You can't get the first base with her unless you can impress her father. He's an eminent surgeon, a championship polo player, and around these parts, he's known as Dr. No.
Will: Why they call him that?
Carlton: Because he never says yes. No young man is good enough for his daughter.
Will: Well, he's not gonna have chance to tell me no 'cause I ain't gonna ask.

Will attempts to ask Mimi Mumford to the Apple Blossom Ball, but must get past her Boyfriend-Blocking Dad, who forbids anyone from dating Mimi unless they have their life completely in order.

This episode provides examples of the following tropes:

  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Mimi falls for Will when he acts like a heartless criminal.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Philip shows Will his move to attract women, saying he used it on Vivian on their first date. Vivian then replies that said move made him lucky in getting a second one.
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: Mimi does it to an extreme degree, preferring streetwise criminals while her father only tolerates straight-laced boys who have their life figured out.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: An unseen guy at the end gives Will a black eye because he was hitting on his wife despite not knowing she was married and she had expressed interest.
  • Easily Forgiven: Hilary and her Dumb Blonde friend Toni can hurl terrible insults at each other and then immediately resume talking without a second thought.
  • Ho Yay:
    • Will and Carlton are caught in a tender position when the latter trains the former in how to ask Mimi to the ball.
    • Philip and Geoffrey perform their finest moves to attract women on Will as well. Geoffrey's proposal causes Will to tackle him to the floor in passion.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Dr. Mumford is a classic overprotective, controlling father, but he as every right to be angry upon discovering that Will's preppy act was just that.
  • Lessons in Sophistication: Carlton, and later the rest of the Banks family, teaches Will how to be a gentleman in order to impress Mimi's father.
  • Shoehorned First Letter: Will has Fun with Acronyms with his fake name Kip Smithers, claiming Kip stands for "Konceived in Prison" to impress Mimi.
