Recap / The Fairly Odd Parents S 7 E 8 Fly Boy

Go To

Fly Boy is the eighth episode of the seventh season of The Fairly OddParents.

Tonight is the big TV premiere of the horror movie I Was A Teenage Blowfly in 3-D, and everyone is looking forward to it, including Timmy—except his parents won't let him see it because they say it's rated FTTFTT (Far Too Terrifying For Timmy Turner). Cosmo and Wanda get Timmy to babysit Poof because he's too little to watch the movie. Timmy wishes he were a fly on the wall, and Poof grants this wish—by switching Timmy's head with a fly's, like in the movie.

Tropes:

  • Abusive Parents: Played for Laughs when Mrs. Turner see the fly-with-Timmy's body eating out of the trashcan, and remarks he always does that while also saying that maybe she should start making enough dinner for three people.
  • Butt-Monkey: Timmy is once again given this treatment when he's the only one in Dimmsdale not allowed to watch ''I Was A Teenage Blowfly'.
  • Irony: I Was a Teenage Blowfly is supposedly "too scary" for Timmy, but from what he is able to see of the movie, he ends up being one of the few people to not be scared of it (like at all). In fact, Timmy's father was far more freaked out by the movie than he was.
  • Pet the Dog: As an apology for sending an angry mob after Timmy, Mr. Turner allows his son to watch the movie that he previously prohibited him from watching.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The boy in the movie who ends up getting his body swapped with a fly looks exactly like Dash Baxter from Danny Phantom.
    • The title of the movie I Was A Teenage Blowfly is based off the movie title I Was a Teenage Werewolf.
    • The premise of both the episode and the movie are based off the 1958 version of The Fly.
  • Smart Ball: Cosmo — who's typically a total moron — has a surprising moment of intelligence when he explains to Wanda that Poof switched Timmy's head with a fly's and provides a quick and frighteningly accurate recap of what Timmy and Poof were up to, including the fact that Timmy and Poof were stuck in a web in Mr. Crocker's living room, and that the latter ran a spider hatchery. Even Wanda's impressed by this.
    Wanda: Cosmo, that was brilliant!
Cosmo: I like monkeys! (his head deflates)
    Wanda: ...and it's over.
  • Torches and Pitchforks: When Mr. Turner ends up seeing the fly-with-Timmy's body, it results in many of the town's citizens marching towards the Turners' house. Mr. Crocker and his mother even have a pair of pitchforks mounted on the wall for such occasion, above a plaque saying "Not one of us".
