Tropes present in this episode:

  • Cheaters Never Prosper: In this morality play about cutthroat politics, Boss and Rosco resort to every dirty trick in the book in their quest to defeat their challenger, T.K. Rogers (a woman), in the Hazzard County Commissioner election. In the end – thanks to Rosco's bumbling and the Dukes' counter campaign to hold Boss at bay, Boss loses.
  • Decided by One Vote: The Dukes' friend Emery Potter casts the deciding vote in an election that sees both the challenger (the bodacious T.K. Rogers) and the incumbnet (Boss) tied just before the polls close. Potter, as it turns out, was the only voter – aside from Rosco – to have not yet voted in an election that sees nearly 100 percent turnout. The polls close just after Potter casts his vote.
    • Incidentally, the Dukes learn of the tied tally just before the polls are to close. Incidentally, it's Rosco (who forgot to vote) who spoils Boss' plans for re-election.
  • The Gloves Come Off: Boss does this when he realizes that Rogers is no pushover, candidate-in-name-only opponent ... that she represents a serious threat to his job and his ability to cheat to make money.
  • Negative Continuity: Boss loses the election but he's still the Comissioner in the next episodes.
