Go To

"The Fundraiser" is the 7th episode of the 3rd season of The Boondocks, and the 37th episode overall. It originally aired on June 13, 2010.

After seeing Jazmine and his other classmates sell candy bars to raise money for the school, Riley decides to create a fake fundraising drive and funnel the profits to himself. He pays the kids to work for him and starts raking in the cash, but soon finds himself in a turf war with the company supplying the candy for the school fundraiser.

Tropes:

  • All for Nothing: Despite everything that happened, the money Riley and the others made were sent to PETA instead of them.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Even though Riley refuses to listen to Huey's prediction of how the candy-selling racket will end, he still accepts a Bulletproof Vest from Huey. It eventually saves his life during the hotel shootout.
  • Cluster F-Bomb: Riley lets go with an epic one when the head of World's Ultimate Chocolates threatens to kill him and his friends if they don't shut down their operation.
Riley: Look. Fuck you, fuck the plane you flew in on, fuck them shoes, fuck those socks with the belt on it, fuck your gay-ass fairy faggot accent, fuck them cheap-ass cigars, fuck your yuck-mouth teeth, fuck your hairpiece, fuck your chocolate, fuck Guy Ritchie, fuck Prince William, fuck the Queen. This is America. My president is black and my Lambo is blue, nigga. Now get the fuck out my hotel room. And if I see you in the street, I'm slappin' the shit outta you.
  • Dead Guy on Display: Played with. The goons working for World's Ultimate Chocolates shove one of Riley's sellers into a vat of molten chocolate, then ship him to Riley's house once it solidifies. The kid survives and delivers a warning that WUC will be coming for Riley unless he quits.
  • From Bad to Worse: Riley, Cindy and Ed being confronted by the World's Ultimate Chocolates goons, who are then confronted by a group of mobsters who burst in, turns into this when an FBI SWAT team raids the place, leading to a devastating three-way shootout. Lampshaded by Riley.
Riley: Oh man. This is really bad.
  • In Medias Res: Not immediately obvious at first, but the episode begins with the final face-off between Riley and the World's Ultimate Chocolates crew.
  • Mexican Standoff: The meeting between Riley and World's Ultimate Chocolates turns into one when a bunch of guys from the local organized crime syndicate burst in. Becomes a three-way standoff when the FBI raids the hotel suite to arrest both groups.
  • Never My Fault: Riley blames Huey for not telling him Jasmine was going to give away the money, despite the fact that Riley chose to ignore Huey when he tried to tell him earlier.
  • Properly Paranoid: Huey tries to warn Riley that his get-rich-quick scheme is destined to go horribly wrong, but Riley doesn't want to hear it. Huey at least gives him a bulletproof vest, just in case. It saves him in the end.
  • Shout-Out:
