Tropes

  • Hot God: Discussed when the guys go to a church and Raj marvels at how ripped Jesus looks in a crucifix.
Raj: None of our gods have abs like that.
Howard: Yup. That's the last Jew who did sit-ups. And look where it got him.
  • Huge Schoolgirl: Mary mentions a girl who worked at Wal-Mart and was so tall "she could hunt geese with a rake." She worried the girl would never land a husband, until she hooked up with one of the Harlem Globetrotters.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Mary shows Racist Grandma tendencies in this episode, calling Catholics "rosary rattlers" and referring to "our Indians" when talking about Raj's drinking.
  • It's All About Me: Sheldon can't comprehend that Mary might just want to enjoy her visit instead of tending to his every need.
  • Layman's Terms:
Amy: Sheldon, is it possible that your foul mood, or to use the clinical term, bitchiness, is because your mother isn't making you a priority?
Sheldon: No. Or to use the clinical term, nuh-uh.
  • Manchild: Sheldon's conflict with his mother lies in the fact that she just wants to be with his other friends and not cook or do chores for him like he was a child.
  • Shout-Out to A Charlie Brown Christmas: Thanks to the Peanuts Christmas classic, Howard has the gist of Christianity.
