This episode provides examples of:

  • And I Must Scream: When turned into a card, the victim's face remains frozen with the last expression they made beforehand. Their eyes, however, can still move, showing that they're still aware of what is going on.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking:
Joker: Why are you all here, you ask? [south Western accent] Because y'all done me wrong! [normal accent] Wiggzy, you sentence me to life in the loony bin. Detectives, you arrested me. Shame on you! Bagley, how many times do I have to tell you I HATE MACARONI AND CHEESE?!
  • Batman Gambit: Not by Batman, but on Batman. Joker understands that if he threatens an orderly to start a plan for him that Batman will want to come directly to Joker for answers, at which point, he can gas Batman, escape, and lock the the hero in the villain's cell. Batman almost doesn’t escape.
  • Crying Wolf/It Was Here, I Swear!: An Arkham guard tries to tell Bennett and Yin about Batman being in the Joker's cell. By the time the detectives arrive, Batman has disguised himself as Joker, causing them to dismiss the guard's story and castigate him for wasting their time.
  • Hypocrite: When Joker has them and several others trapped at Gotham Palace Theatre, Ethan prepares to try jumping him. But Yin stops Ethan, telling him not to do anything rash. Not even a minute later, however, she lets emotions overpower reason and rushes Joker herself. While he’s right next to his weapon. It goes about as well as you’d expect.
  • "Oh, Crap!" Smile: Joker, complete with nervous laughter, when he realizes he’s about to fall victim to his own weapon.
  • The Only One Allowed to Defeat You:
Joker: Do you really think I'd send a flunkie to eliminate my favourite sparring partner? (scoffs) I reserve that pleasure for me alone!
  • Playing Card Motifs: Joker has a gun that encases its target in a rectangular shell resembling a giant playing card.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Dr. Bagley, the Arkham psychologist who believes himself to be the last line of defence from supervillains,
