Tropes seen in this episode:

  • Got Me Doing It: Floyd calls Barney "Al" through much of the episode, the same name the convicts have been calling him.
  • Irony: After the convicts have been captured, Barney explains to Andy that Floyd was not much help while they were held hostage. At the very end, Floyd is given credit for capturing the escaped convicts in a newspaper.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: More than anyone else, Floyd makes the situation he and Barney are in when they are taken hostage by the escaped convicts at O'Malley's cabin worse. When Big Maude takes Barney's gun and asks where the bullet it, Floyd says it's in Barney's pocket. And later when she notices him checking the time, he explains that everyone will be looking for him if he doesn't get back to the courthouse by 4:30, which results in Big Maude forcing Barney to telephone Andy and tell him he's staying at O'Malley's for the night.
  • Pig Latin: When Big Maude forces Barney to call Andy and tell him that he and Floyd are spending the night with O'Malley, Andy reminds Barney of three escaped woman convicts (who happen to be right there with Barney and Floyd). Barney uses Pig Latin to try to send a message to Andy about the convicts' presence: "Onvicts-Cay ere-hay!" But Andy had already hung up before Barney could get the message through to him.
