- Secret Test of Character: It's revealed that the final test for Octavia's group is a simulation wherein one of their own attempts to burn down the atmospheric forest that keeps the Disciples alive in revenge. If they can kill someone they love for the greater good of humanity then they are worthy to pass to the next stage. Echo, Diyoza and Octavia all pass by killing their version of Hope in the simulation while Hope fails and is to be punished by being sent back to Skyring.
- Shout-Out: After agreeing to help Indra and Murphy on his own terms, Sheidheda says: "I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship", a quote from Casablanca .
- The Bad Guy Wins: The episode ends with Sheidheda successfully using the hostage crisis to get in touch with the members of Wonkru and reveal who he really is. After seeing his strength the members bow to him.
- You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: After getting into a position where he no longer needs to pretend to be Russel Sheidheda proceeds to go on a rampage to the Faithful locked inside with him in order to prove to the members of Wonkru that he is truly a Commander.
- Your Normal Is Our Taboo: As Levitt explains to Octavia, Diyoza, Echo and Hope since growing the children in tubes is far quicker and more viable they find the concept that Hope gestated in Diyoza's womb to be strange.
