Red Sees Red is the second episode of the third season of That '70s Show, and originally aired on October 10, 2000.

Red becomes a strict disciplinarian in the wake of Eric's confession.

Tropes:

  • The Alcatraz: Red turns the house into one.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Courtesy of Kitty when she puts her foot down:
Kitty: Now, you (to Red) get upstairs and take those nails out of the window, and you, (to Eric) stop being such a sneaky smart mouth, and, (to Fez) and you! Honey, you gotta stop eating stuff off the floor!
  • Drop-In Character: Lampshaded when Red goes around to perform "bed checks," with Eric having Donna in his room and Laurie with Kelso in her room. Then, Red goes down to the basement, where Jackie, Fez, and Hyde are sitting watching TV, forcing Fez and Jackie to hide in the back room.
  • Ironic Echo: Continuing from the previous episode, Red uses some variation of the phrase "Playtime is over" when he announces further restrictions on the house. Then at the end of the episode when Kitty forces him to lift all of his rules, Eric says "Well... I guess 'playtime is over'".
  • Serial Escalation: Invoked, in that Red's restrictions start with a simple curfew, followed by watching over the kids while they hang out and removing anything that could be considered "drugs" (including glue), and then promptly crosses the Moral Event Horizon by nailing the windows shut, showing complete indifference to the possibility of zero escape from a fire for Eric.
    • Same goes for the way the kids try to rebel. It starts out with trying to get away with the stuff they usually do, just in a short amount of time. Then Eric tries jumping out the window, only to find Red waiting right there for him. Then both Eric and Laurie try to sneak Donna and Kelso into their rooms to have sex with them, and culminates with the entire gang trying to push the (demobilized) Vista Cruiser out of the driveway.
  • Shout-Out
    • Red insists upon putting Eric on a strict curfew, arguing he'd go off the rails without it, as seen by a fantasy sequence of Eric turning into the Demon:
Red: Why, oh why, didn't I discipline you?
Demon!Eric: Shut up and eat your corn flakes!
    • After Red enforce a strict curfew, Eric, Hyde, and Laurie are stuck watching TV with the adults. Kitty turns on The Brady Bunch Hour for the sake of wholesome entertainment, though Red can't stand it and Eric cracks wise. Kitty has an Imagine Spot with the Formans performing in place of the Bradys and things predictably going south.
Kitty: ''(after her Imagine Spot) Oh, no. This is crap!
    • The episode ends with Kitty, the Demon, and Charo singing "Sunrise, Sunset" on the set of Kitty's variety show.
  • Someone's Touching My Butt: Occurs while Kelso and Donna have to hide under Laurie's bed:
Donna: Kelso, get your hand off my ass!
    Kelso: It was an accident.
    Donna: It's still there!
    Kelso: It's still an accident!
    Donna: Kelso, it's still there!
    Kelso: (laughs) Yeah...
    (Donna smacks him)
