The "water" that the Super Galaxy Dai-Gurren finds itself in is described by Lordgenome as a Death Spiral Field. It converts Spiral power to superdense matter. Many of the Anti-Spiral ships have come to push the Super Galaxy Dai-Gurren down. Kittan and Yoko come out to fight them until they are overwhelmed. Gimmy and Darry show up to aid them in destroying the enemy craft.
Team Dai Gurren witness many Lagann type mecha, which the Anti-Spiral's voice declares that they were the ones that were defeated long ago. Simon declares to fight for all those who fell. One of the drills breaks, causing Simon to get hurt. While Simon rests, Boota manages to join Viral in Gurren's cockpit. All of a sudden, the tiny pig-mole releases plenty of Spiral power, so now Gurren can work in tandem with Lagann.
In order to escape the field, Team Dai Gurren must destroy the Death Spiral machine generating it, but the Super Galaxy Dai-Gurren is being flooded with super dense space matter. Kittan decides to go in Yoko's place to fire the missile that should destroy the machine. While the barrier surrounding the machine is broken, the missile breaks and Space King Kittan blows up from the pressure. But suddenly King Kittan emerges with one of Gurren Lagann's shattered drills. After declaring that this drill represents his soul, Kittan awakens his Spiral power and delivers the King Kittan Giga Drill Break, which destroys the Death Spiral Machine and himself in the process, much to the sorrow of Yoko and the rest.
With the machine destroyed, the super dense matter is converted to Spiral power. Simon, accepting Kittan's final wish, proceeds to transform the Super Galaxy Dai-Gurren into the Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann which rises from the "water" to confront the Anti-Spirals who, in Simon's words, shall "feel the power of the human race".
