Recap / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012 S 3 E 7 Eyes Of The Chimera

Go To

Following Speed Demon's defeat at the end of the previous episode, its mutagen comes in contact with a bird, fish and worm, fusing the three animals into a horrific chimera and with the turtles and Casey captured, it's up to Leo and a blind April to save the day.

  • Achilles in His Tent: Leo has become this, but seems to grow out of it by the end of the episode.
  • A Day in the Limelight: Not for a particular character, but a relationship - the episode focuses of the friendship between Leo and April.
  • Ascended Extra: The episode's opening outright shows a bird which was flying around the crashing Speed Demon, which mutates into the Chimera, this week's Monster of the Week.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Subverted. Raph remembered his grappling hook, but Donnie, Mikey, and Casey didn't. He proceeds to yell at them for not being prepared for anything.
  • Darker and Edgier: Mikey, Donnie, Raph and Casey are thrown into the Chimera's nest, which is littered with dozens of human skeletons.
  • Filler: Finally averted; this proves to be a critical moment in Leo's recovery.
  • "Freaky Friday" Flip: Played With. April can see through the Chimera's eyes, but otherwise has no effect on the beast. However, the neural link between them has April lose her mind briefly and try to eat Leo.
  • Growling Gut: Not only does April's link with the Chimera allow her to see through its eyes, but she can feel its hunger, which causes her belly to growl.
  • Handicapped Badass: A major theme of this episode, with April trying to overcome her personal blindness and use her vision through the Chimera's eyes to her advantage, while Leo tries to push on despite feeling physically and emotionally handicapped.
  • Heroic BSoD: Leo's at his lowest after hurting his leg again during a training session with Raph and Casey. He dreads he's never going to get better and wallows in self-pity.
  • He's Back!: Leo may not be in absolute prime condition again following his grueling battle with the Foot, but his "It's good to be back" line is a good sign.
  • Lampshade Hanging: Casey asks what the odds could've been that they would be abducted by a giant mutant.
Raph: Have you even met us?!
  • Mix-and-Match Critters: The Chimera has elements of a bird, a worm, and a fish, as April foretold in the beginning of the episode.
  • Monster of the Week: The seventh consecutive one.
  • No Ontological Inertia: April deduces that the Chimera is dead when she can't see through its eyes anymore. Ultimately Averted, as while her link to the Chimera was severed, it still survived the episode.
  • Not Quite Dead: The Chimera in the end.
  • Super-Persistent Predator: The Chimera.
  • Tempting Fate: Yes April, the Chimera is gone now, you keep telling yourself that.
  • To Serve Man: It's not too picky about its food considering it tries to eat the Turtles, but the Chimera's got a noticeable collection of human skeletons in its nest.
